15th Anniversary SVX Meeting

To all SVXers everywhere,

I have been thinking about a 15th Anniv. SVX Meet.
I have been thinking of holding it in Kansas City, due to its central.
I also think it should be held in early October, so that it is not too hot or cold.

I do not want to be the main driving force for the 15th Anniv. SVX Meet due to my experience with the 10th Annivsary SVX Meet.
Michelle & I did all the prep work on that one. Rosie & Chia did the work on the SIA tour. While I enjoyed myself, I have had better times at SVX Meets (Reading 4) where I have not been involved with the planning.

I think that groups of SVXers (about 10-15) should get involved to plan & handle the following:

1) Accomodations
2) Activities
3) Dinner
4) $ Collection
5) Sponsorship (SOA KC dealer, etc.)
6) Sign-up Lists (nametags, etc.)
7) Art Work (posters, signs, etc.)

Oct. 2007 is only 2 1/2 years away, so the planning should start now. I am looking for volunteers to plan & coordinate various aspects of this upcoming SVX Meet.
I would prefer SVXers from the midwest who are familiar with the KC area but that isn't necessary.

I am also looking to break the NA attendance record of 98 SVXes that we had at the 10th Anniv. SVX Meet.
The attendance at the Japanese 10th Anniv. SVX Meet was 114 SVXes.

Any SVXer who wants to volunteer should contact me by e-mail or PM.

COME ON EVERYONE, LET'S GET THE BALL ROLLING !!

Well I'll be in college in 2 1/2 years so I doubt I would be able to help plan but Email me with the info and I will make the road trip and be there, they sound like a blast.

Well stated Larry and again THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL 10th! As much as I enjoy Reading meets, it is very hard to relax when you're a planner. You just need to look at clubs where a handful of people are responsible for everything. They tend to die since these people become burned out and "new" ideas aren't introduced by newer members. Having been around enough to get to know most of the Reading participants I'm perfectly happy sitting around talking but there are many who aren't so we try to come up with different fun things to do. Eventually we'll be out of fun things to do and hopefully someone else will have stepped in to bring fresh blood to the table.

Kansas in October?

Fall will keep a lot of people away, as it is not vacation season. I may not be able to attend at that time of year.

I have some spare time to help with any long distance things.

I really think it would be fun to hook up with some other car extravaganza, perhaps like this one:

Why not have it somewhere it is not so hot in the summer and go there. Summer is a better time for the meet - more time, kids out of school, better weather, etc. I think we need to figure out the best place and time for it before we plan it. Just some thoughts.

I think that we need to find someone to coordinate it before we go picking dates/locations.

Coordination depends on location as well so location/coordination should be chosen together.

If it is too far away, or if it is at the wrong time of the year, I will not be able to make it and very difficult to help out.

My $ .02

Would work best for scheduling purposes during summer (kids out of school, no college, etc.) Late June-August.

Then, if summer months were agreed best, the location choice should take into account weather in those months. If some places are miserable at that time, that is a valid concern (I didn't make the 10th Anniversary, but understand there were some complaints about heat?).

Beyond climate, the location should have some general appeal. The type of place a family would probably be willing to drive halfway across the country for just on a normal roadtrip vacation, event or not. Of course anywhere you have to travel some distance to, you can find lots of good roadtrip attractions along the way (as I'm sure many did going to Lafayette, which by itself doesn't sound that exciting). The thrill is in the journey so to speak. But still, if the meet location itself has some great scenic appeal, tourist attractions, recreation, etc, I think it would be that much more interesting, and an easier sell for people with spouses and/or families.

Definitely a good thing to start the planning now for an event of this (hopefully) size. The key to attendance will be to establish that it is going to be something big - THE one event of 2007 that every SVXer worth his or her salt needs to be at no matter how far you have to travel. Plan early, plan big, and have people commit to coming.

I guess I shouldn't say all of this without volunteering something. I will be happy to help out any way I can, including some of the heavy organization work. But like Earl said, my availability will depend on time and location.

Why not start a poll to see what the majority of SVX'ers think as to when it should be held.
As for where, Larry's idea of a central location is nice, but as pointed out, there needs to be something to do at the location that will help draw people from all over the country,(and canada as well, can't forget our friends from the gwn) Will KC do this?

Hi SVXers,

My idea of KC in Oct. 2007 is just that, an idea. The floor is open to all other suggestions for place & time.
What is really needed are volunteers to help plan & set up something great.

I want to thank SvXit, Earl, MacGyver, SVX-My-Baby, and anyone else that wants to help.

PS: My personal choice for the 15th, 20th, or 25th Anniv. SVX Meet would be the SOA parking lot in Cherry Hill, NJ in June.
However, that would mean that most of the western SVXers would not attend.

That would be great idea Larry, give it a real official Subaru feel. But you are right, it would definitely cut off 2/3's of the country except for a handful of extreme diehards that would trust their car (or at least be willing to subject them to the miles) and invest that much time into travelling for this.

The idea of simultaneous meets has always been thrown around (we could have a bi-coastal meet), but it just wouldn't be the same I don't think.

what about Branson, Missouri? its not exactly a big place on the map, but i was there acouple years ago and what i remember most was the whindy roads and mountains perfect SVX conditions, there is some entertainment there also. it would be easier for me to make it sometime around june-august. i would like to help out with all the planning, but i just dont have the time right now.

Hey Im in Alaska right now and should be leaving to go back to KC in august. Driving Heh Heh. I think it would be a very good spot. Ive lived there 20 years and for windy road you don't need to go to Branson. Just on the outer edges of the city we got tons of lake roads and well built curving back roads. Fun for drinking. So Ive heard
