VIN check, please.

JF1CX353XNH101624

If someone subscribes to a VIN check service, could you please run the number above. It's purported to belong to a black '92 that contained a used engine I bought. The junk yard claimed the engine had only 45k miles on it, but it seems to have a lot more. The mechanic says it has way, way more to judge by the grime, rust, etc. on it. I'd like to know the mileage of the car, not that I can ever know if the engine is really from that car!

Brian,
According to Carfax it wasn't anywhere near 45k
Here's a cut and paste of the mileage check.

Mileage Consistency Check:

CARFAX found no inconsistent odometer readings in the mileage history of this 1992 SUBARU SVX LS-L (JF1CX353XNH101624).

Date: Mileage:
06/14/1994 43,527
10/22/1994 45,606
10/15/1996 71,452
03/02/1998 93,844
10/17/1998 102,609
10/25/2000 128,753
10/02/2002 160,028

Rotorflyr,

Thanks! That's a discouragingly high number of miles, but it's good to know. The mechanic working on my car is going to complain to the junkyard where I found the engine, but I'd be surprised if they refund me anything. Even if they do, it will be 6.5 - 8 hour drive to go back there.

Zeppelin,

Well, right now I'm stranded in San Jose, CA trying to get my engine's short block replaced. Luckily, the mechanic says that despite the mileage on this "new" engine, the piston shafts appear to be in good shape. They'll canibalize parts from my old engine, including 2 pistons. I'll only be back in Colorado (Lakewood) for a very short time because I'm moving back to Pennsylvaina at he end of September (or possibly beginning of October due to being stuck in CA for so long!).
