gas in England=$5.79/gallon

I just read in the paper that the average price of a gallon of gas in England is $5.79. Makes you feel guilty about complaining about our "expensive" gas, doesn't it?

Honestly, I find that hard to believe, and not in a good way. I have a friend here at work from the UK, and this past winter we got talking about it, and he said gas at that time was about $8US/gallon in the UK. I have a feeling that 5.79 price may be pounds or euros. Thats why I don't complain about our gas prices here in the US that much.

$6.00 gas

Even at $6/gal, gas is still cheap when you compare it with what you'd spend on a gallon of anything at Starbucks.

Re: $6.00 gas

...or a gallon of anything at the bar (or would 'pub' be more appropriate here)!

If the price of petrol continues to increase I'm planning to economise by running the SVX on Irish Whiskey.

The only reason our gas is so "cheap" is because we buy the crude in huge volumes, and also we produce our own.

The reason it's so expensive here is that the $6 gallon is made up of $1.50 petrol and $4.50 tax. Our government are determined to screw every last penny out of motorists.

If the taxes here in the US were more comparable with the rest of the world, perhaps we would not use 30% of the worlds oil. Down with SUVs!!! I especially like the one site that another SVXer referred to on this site: fuh2

Americans waste way too much. We need more taxes to be conservation-minded. What we don't need is dumb-asses (excuse my language) like John Kerry trying to further lower the price of gas and blame the late increases on Bush, not the fact that China has raised its Petroleum consumption 70% over the last two years.

I started to rant so I will stop now.

Dan! That's pretty darn funny!

It's true though. Think about what people spend on a bottle of "designer" water. $1.00? $1.50? If you bought enough to fill a gallon jug you'd easily spend way more than a gallon of gas costs!
