Suba-n00b

So I pull into the Subaru dealer today, and this lady comes out. Apparently she works there.

First let me tell you how dumb I am. Parts isn't open on Sunday, especially not on Memorial Day weekend. Duh everyone knows this. Not I said the cat.

Anyway, so I pull in, and she walks up to me, like, "What kind of car is that? A honda?"
I'm like WTS it's a Subaru SVX.

So I had to give her the lowdown and brief history of vehicle and it's specs and junk.

It was fun and she was really impressed with it and now wants one.
Tough luck getting one up here.

I just think it's interesting they don't verse their salesman on past vehicles, even if they weren't considered a success. i told her about my XT6s and she seemed to know about those.
=/

Suba-n00bs.

I had that happen to me, a week after I bought my SVX I stopped by the dealership to talk about getting valve gaskets done, one of their new guys walks up and says "Wow, what kinda car is that? A Subaru?! You're kidding!" I found a different place to fix my car.

I will never let Continental fix my car. I just go there and harass their parts guys a few times a month.

Alaska to the lay person.

I had the same problem with a tire place. I had to get new wheels because the stock rims got borred out from improper wheel locks. I pull in and they go to the computer to check lug pattern and spacing. The guy says, "It's a '92 Mitsubishi, what model?" And I'm like "A '92 what?"

Long story short, a handful of people in the auto industry still know their stuff and others are just ignorant.

The guys at the tire shop assumed that because I look 20ish, that I am driving a Eagle/Mits/Toyota sports car. They obviously don't know to look at the badge on the hood or the Subaru SVX mock taillight when moving around the car. I have more class than to drive a Mits/Eagle/Toyota.

But all the guessing makes me feel like my car is more Quasi-exotic than most other vehicles out there.

If you lived in NJ, you'd be really dumb. In NJ, car dealers are required by law to be closed on Sunday, not just the Parts dept. Sunday is my favorite day to shop for cars, no salesmen to bother you!

I was at a Subaru Dealership a while ago to get a crank pulley for my turbo Legacy. The pulley had fallen off ( ) earlier that day and I was running on battery power all day. lasted surprisingly long. anyways, I get the pulley and install it in the parking lot. I go back in and ask if I can get a jump. the guy walks out and I point to the car. he asks "is that a Maxima?" . "No, It's a legacy turbo." I reply. he comes back with "Those come turbocharged?"

I took a moment to school him on subarus a little. He thought "that rally stuff" sounded kinda nifty. And he gave me a wierd look when I mentioned that I liked the 2 SVXs they had for sale there. "those are subarus?"

I didn't go back tehre the next time I needed parts .
