Unhappy Sorry for Offending the Netowork....

I would like to apoligize to the Network for what I said today before Lunch on the thread "U.S. Military Action" in the "Not Quite SVX" forum... I probably should have thought about what I said a little longer before I typed it... It probably wouldhave been best if I didn't post at all in that thread... My feelings are the way that they are because that is just how people that have to deal with the stresses of combat feel... Nothing will change that... I can't go into detail about it too much but 3 Marines from the Air Station (M.C.A.S. Beaufort) were killed in Iraq... Two of them I knew pretty well... They become not just people that ya work with but more than that... More like a family and it really hurts to see them get killed by gurilla attacks and suicide bombings... Those people where there as a support group... I do not know the true reason why we are there... The government won't let us know the "Real" reason... But I do know that Because I lost 2 friends from the Airstation and another on the Aircraft carrier, I donot have kind feelings for the people in the middle east or this war... That is about the best that I can do in expalning why I said what I did... Thanks

Chris,
Good on yer, for offering your apology.

I live a spit and a stone's throw from Fort Campbell, KY. Home of the 101st Airborne, "Screaming Eagles." I was not close to, nor did I know any of the men from the 101st who lost their lives in Iraq, but, those from the fort are considered "our boys" and the entire State grieves when even one of them goes down.

I say that, only to say that I understand, to a lesser degree, I'm sure, your passion and compassion. I understand the frustration that sometimes makes us speak inappropriately out of our anger. I would urge the other members (especially those of us who are not military) to take this into account and extend an extra measure of mercy in accepting your plea for forgiveness. As for me . . . accepted . . . done . . . let's move on. There probably isn't one among us who doesn't need to ask for forgiveness for a thought, or word behind the screen that was deleted before it was posted.

Let's all use this as a reminder to think before we post. We are people of all walks of life, all faiths, many countries and various sensitivities. Let's be mindful, despite our personal biases and inclinations, to respect each other in our differences and put forth some special effort to resist "reacting" without forethought.

Again, Chris. Thank you for setting this example. I salute you.

I can sympathize with you. My son is in Baqubah right now. His 'barracks' is across the street from the police station that got suicide-bombed the other day. Luckily, he was about two blocks away at the time (but had a piece of shrapnel sail over his head) and none of his buddies were hurt, either.

Thank God I get to see him in a couple of weeks when he's home for a 2 week leave. Unfortunately, he's got to return there until May-ish.

Again, sorry for what I said... Thank you to those of you that understood and forgave me for my post... I really want everyone to also understand that I donot love death... I do not want people in Iraq to die... If it were up to me all our troops would be home tomorrow and we wouldn't set foot in the middle east ever again... I would sign peace treaties with every country in the world... I would try to make it like it was before WWII, when America just worried about it's self and waasn't trying to play the role of "The World's baby sitter"... It really is a shame that we have to kill eachother over stuff... If this war is over oil and does not have a true meaning behind it like finding terrorists then I will have my Marine Corps Tattoo removed... Why be apart of something fake??? I only have one more year in, then I am out... So pretty soon this will not be my life... This is all I've ever known... Since 10th Grade I've been in Military Academy, not 2 months after graduation I was off to Bootcamp... So I need to start "calming down a little" I guess...

And for the record----> For those of you that saw the video clip... What those pilots did was against the Geniva Conventions rules for Combat... In the rules it says that you can not attack individual combatants with excessivly large weapons... The 30mm cannon that the Apachie carries could definitly be considered OVERKILL!!!! Anything bigger than a 7.62 round from a S.A.W. is considered too big and is possible grounds for a Courts marshall... I would think that because of that video those two pilots are now Discharged from the military...

And Mark, I am very glad that your son was alright... Think about this when you see him next time and all those families that won't be seeing thier son's or daughters or Fathers... There's alot.... It's too bad too... But that's politics for ya...

The Definition of WAR (Websters dictionary) " A state of open, armed, often prolonged conflict carried on between nations, states, to serve a political end..." The key is the Political end....

I just noticed that there was a "War/Military" thread in "Not quite SVX" forum... I'm not going in there... I don't want to see something that might get me all wanting to talk about war.... After this post I am gonna be done with the Marine Corps, the War, the military and anything that has to do with killing, posts... After all , this is a SVX site right??

My hat is off to you too. It is not easy to admit when someone steps across the line. I also understand that it is the way we cope with what is in our past of what is happening to us now. Thanks for your apology.

Good job Chris!

Yeah don't go in there. I have a feeling nothing good can come out of that one.

Iraq

Hi Chris. We all know why we are in Iraq. I' m not going to get carried away, but I think everyone knows it has to do with the "Commander and Chief" It hurts me every time another of our men and woman ends up dead for nothing. The law of the land should be that the COC should have to go see the parents and wives and kids and tell them face to face that their loved one is dead. Remember, its all fun and games till someone loses an eye. We are not talking eyes here, although I'm sure ther have been some of those. Nobody asked us to come there and nobody wants us there now. Lets pack it up and bring home the dead the wounded and the living. There will be no pride in this action. The people that do the sending don't have to do the dying. Chris, I'm glad you don't have to go. Take care, BOBB

He would if he could. Believe me when I say that. Just another reason that makes me believe that when all this plays out, years after he is out of office, we will realize that we were dealing with one of the greatest men to ever lead this country. Though I can understand how you wouldn't have that opinion at this time. We know who was right and who was wrong, when looking back on our history. Well before long this will all be history, and we will be telling our grandkids about "the days when REAL men used to lead this country". You know it's true.

I already spoke to GreenMarineSVX over PM about his comment...and I see no need in posting about it again in here. I think you did the right thing with this public-like apology.
