Duty sol C code, replaced TCU, now duty sol A code
I was getting code 23. I replaced the TCU and everything was wonderful for about 3 weeks until I hosed off the engine. Now, I'm getting code 11. I know it has something to do with the TCU again. My question is, why do TCUs keep going bad on me and is there a way to reset it without pulling it out? This is a very annoying problem as the car shifts hard and I can't drive in 3 without it constantly trying to downshift.

Well it looks like touching the battery cables to each other for several minutes cleared the problem away. Very strange...

spoke too soon. The problem reoccurred after the car warmed up.

You hosed off the engine. Did you get much water in between the side of the battery and the car? The resistor for solenoid A lives right in that area. Check the connector for water.

Re: Duty sol C code, replaced TCU, now duty sol A code
Thank you for the response. It's been about 2 and a half weeks since I hosed it off. So I don't think there's water in there. It may have just been a coincidence. Is it possible that there's a short somewhere or that a corroded battery cable is responsible for destroying the TCU? I know that if I were to replace it, the problem will go away. But even used ones are expensive.

If you want, you can have my old one. I have gone to a 6 speed, so I have no need for it. You can view my resistor here. It was a robust replacement for the stock resistor.

If that doesn't work, I'll look into replacing the resistor. |

Re: Duty sol C code, replaced TCU, now duty sol A code
I removed the resistor and tested it with an ohm meter. There is no continuity whatsoever between the 2 male connectors on the resistor assembly, meaning that touching both connectors with both meter pegs didn't register at all. Does this mean it's bad? Also, do the old legacies use the same resistor as the SVX? If so, I can simply go to the junk yard and get another one.

They may use the same one as the legacies. Take your multimeter to the junkyard and test them.

I went to the junk yard and pulled a resistor off a Nissan maxima and it fixed the issue. Thanks for the help!

What year/body style of maxima? (For future reference)

Re: Duty sol C code, replaced TCU, now duty sol A code
Sorry, I don't remember the year and style, but am fairly positive it was a mid 90s maxima sedan. I also found the same part on an old infinity (I think it was a G20). On the Maxima, it's mounted behind the side of the battery (between the battery and the driver). On the infinity it was in the same place as the SVX.
Legacies didn't have them at all. At least not in a spot I could see. Last edited by FM977; 02-18-2013 at 12:30 AM. |
