Zymol Rubber Seal Conditioner

Major props for this product. I coated every rubber seal in the car with this and let it sit for a few hours. When I brought the car out for a drive, every evidence of wind noise was gone! I was getting a lot of noise and whistling but it all went away. And I was up to 65 on the highway in a strong cross wind.

The company claims to make the rubber feel like a dog's nose. I felt the rubber and I felt the dog's nose and I can confirm that it does indeed deliver on this claim.

The next step is to put a thin layer of lubricant over the door seals to keep them from freezing together when we get freezing rain. It already happened once this season.

Re: Zymol Rubber Seal Conditioner

We had freezing rain twice already. This morning was brutal, about 3/8 of an inch of ice. It took me about 20 minutes to get in the car. The seals definately need to be dealt with.

I'm going to give the Zymol 24 hours to fully condition the rubber and then I am going to put a thin coating of Krytox lubricant on them.

I bought them on ebay. I think I may need more of the Krytox but, damn, that stuff is expensive. It may be overkill for what I am doing but I wanted to make sure I used something effective but inert. I also used it to lube up my door and hood latches and the door stopper thingies. The Zymol went a long way and I will have that bottle for some time.

Re: Zymol Rubber Seal Conditioner

.

Many members here use Sil-Glyde, a silicone gel available at many NAPA and Auto Zone stores, as well as Amazon HERE

HERE is a better product description from the company's website.

Just squeeze it from the tube and rub a small amount onto the rubber weatherstripping. it dries and leaves a slick, non-stick coating.

I have been using it for years and never had a sticking problem. Hard to describe, but it works beautifully. Aredubjay turned me on to this stuff years ago.

Search sil-glyde on the web to find where else it is available

YES...yes it does!!! After 24 hours I am thinking that I may skip the Krytox lubricant and save that for heavy duty lube applications. The rubber seals are very soft and already plenty lubricated from the Zymol. I tell you, this stuff is great. It is the closest thing to the old Gummi Pflege that BMW used to sell to their customers. The silicone stuff probably works well too but I have read that it is not totally inert and will attack some materials like plastics and even glass.

About Krytox, it is what Ferrari uses to lubricate hinges and bushings. After feeling my seals after the Zymol I am hesitant to waste the expensive Krytox on rubber seals when they may be fine the way they are.

The Choir welcomes you!! I've been using Zymöl products for a long time and have always gotten great results. A word of warning on Seal: do NOT let it spill, i.e., leave the bottle laying on its side for some reason ... ask me how I know. In any event, great product. And now that you've tried that ...

I plan on giving the leather conditioner a try in the spring.

Also great products, the cleaner and conditioner set. I have been using them for a long time, but recently switched to Leatherique. The latter costs more and is much more time consuming to use, but I've had very good results with it. If, for whatever reason, Zymöl leather products don't quite give the results you're after, have a go at this:

I ordered some of this and will give it a try when it finally gets warm again. I also need to do another application of Zymol on the rubber. The wind noise is back.....
