Is D3 generally better than D

Another stupid question. I was reading through a lot of old posts today. (Work has been slow lately) I was viewing a post about the transmission resistor, in it Trevor replied to someone and part of his reply said something about how you should always use Drive 3 when in traffic and only use regular Drive when on the highway. I was just wondering if most people used D3 rather than D? I was driving around today and to me D3 seemed to feel a little stronger than D. Also if I am driving in D3 is it normal to shift it into D while moving if say I enter the highway, or should you only change it while stopped?

It's scary how much more I worry about this kind of stuff in the SVX than in any other car I have ever owned.

Re: Is D3 generally better than D

D3 basically holds the car from shifting up into 4th and locking the torque converter. This is why you think D3 is stronger. D is so long that D3 just feels more powerful.

I shift into D on the fly all the time. I always do it on the highway because the D3 RPM's at 60 are terrible.

As for which you should drive in...there's varying viewpoints on that. Trevor believes in the use of D3 for traffic to keep the Torque Converter from having to repeatedly lock and unlock. At the same time though, why would the transmission designers have built in that way if they didn't think the transmission could hold under that kind of driving.

Re: Is D3 generally better than D

Driving in traffic or in the city 3 is the best option. it keeps the car out of overdrive and thus creates less heat and less shifting (cause of more heat) Unless you are doing over say 45mph there is no real reason to use D simply because you are getting the same fuel economy either way. Stop n go, use 3. Cruising... just leave it in D

Same here... with proper switch in all. Are you going to use a switch? I've got a new set of tires I need to get on before I bother with the power mod thing though.

It's funny I was reading some articles last night and read one stating D3 is the way to drive to keep heat down and so on... and now this thread pops up. I haven't tried driving it like this yet but for some reason it led me to doing the solenoid c duty test or whatever in the parking lot last night, the article that is... (and it passed, yay).

Most my city driving never exceeds 50mph so maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea I guess but in all honesty, I doubt I'll go out of my way to make sure to use it that way.
