Feeler for an idea...

I have this idea floating around my head that I think could be pretty interesting. Basically my idea is to put together a collective biography of common people.

So I have three feeler questions for you...
1. Would you answer a survey for a person you didn't know if you knew that the information was going to be seen by many people?
2. Would you want to have a mini-biography of yourself published?
3. Would you be interested in reading a mini-biography of common people?

I guess it would depend on what it was about and what the info is.

Thanks for the feedback, and thanks to those who have voted thus far. I have a pretty solid framework set, but I'm still figuring out the specifics of what and how to ask people to create their story. Your comment pretty well sums up the main difficulty I will be facing: getting information thats interesting enough for people to actually want to read it, but not so intrusive as to cause apprehension to the interview.

here is my biography:

I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing ice. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I translate ethnic slurs for Cuban refugees, I write award-winning operas, I manage time efficiently. Occasionally, I tread water for three days in a row.

I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed, and I cook Thirty-Minute Brownies in twenty minutes. I am an expert in stucco, a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru.

Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I play bluegrass cello, I was scouted by the Mets, I am the subject of numerous documentaries. When I'm bored, I build large suspension bridges in my yard. I enjoy urban hang gliding. On Wednesdays, I repair electrical appliances free of charge.

I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless bookie. Critics worldwide swoon over my original line of corduroy evening wear. I don't perspire. I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail. I have been caller number nine and have won the weekend passes. Last summer I toured New Jersey with a traveling centrifugal-force demonstration. I bat .400. My deft floral arrangements have earned me fame in international botany circles. Children trust me.

I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I once read Paradise Lost, Moby Dick, and David Copperfield in one day and still had time to refurbish an entire dining room that evening. I know the exact location of every food item in the supermarket. I have performed several covert operations for the CIA. I sleep once a week; when I do sleep, I sleep in a chair. While on vacation in Canada, I successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who had seized a small bakery. The laws of physics do not apply to me.

I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. Years ago I discovered the meaning of life but forgot to write it down. I have made extraordinary four course meals using only a mouli and a toaster oven. I breed prizewinning clams. I have won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open-heart surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis.

Haha!

Like I said, my biggest problem is going to be keeping it interesting, which you have done quite well. In some ways allowing people to have the freedom for fabrication and exaggeration is a little bit further from my original intent, but in some ways its even better.

I'll make sure to give you a credit in the book if I get rich Alan

I think it would depend on the type of data asked of me. Some things I'd be willing to answer on a survey or for a biography. Other data, I wouldn't want to. So, to answer all of your questions: maybe.

I did not answer your poll so that I don't skew your data.

Thanks, that's the exact reason I didn't put maybe as an option. I figured a lot of people would be in the "maybe" category. If I can sell an idea to 1 person I can sell it to 100, but if I can "maybe" sell the idea to 5 people, then I really have no clue where I stand.

I think specificity would make selling the idea a lot easier. Telling people that you might do a biography or a survey doesn't really say anything. What kind of questions would be on the survey? What kind of biography would it be? What kind of information are you looking for? These could all be good selling points for your idea.

I don't really need to sell the idea just yet, I was just curious to see if there was any interest at all. Even if I had only gotten 1 yes vote I probably would have gone along with the project.

As far as specifics go, it's probably going to take me about a month to get the project set-up and fine-tune the details, and another two to three months to collect data.

I'll be sure to keep updates of my progress, but I'm probably going to exempt forum members from my data collection to create an unbiased approach.
