Wood dash kit interior

LOOK IN MY LOCKER " Interior" folder
What's up?! I finally did it, putting on the wood dash kit on the SVX, sweet!
Despite the gaps it looks wonderful to me and I thank Dayle from Motorsports for hooking me up.
CHECK IN MY LOCKER under "INTERIOR" folder
Peace,
sid e ryner

wood dash trim

WOW!

that looks GREAT!

that makes me want to do the same to my dash. mine is looking a little faded, and has a few scratches.
And I've seen a few manual tranny Shift Knobs that have the same wood grain with grey leather wrap. That would really look sweet with my setup.

Dale, I will be contacting you when my tax returns arrive!

My first thought when looking at the pics... "G-damn! That looks sweet!". Upon closer examination, however, I see one glaring flaw that would keep me from getting the kit (and I really would have considered getting it otherwise). The piece that covers the vent over the climate controls does not wrap over the top of it to cover all the plastic. The lower pieces bend to the inside radius curves so there is no reason why they could not have extended it with an outside radius curve to cover the whole piece. After all, it is just molded plastic and not really wood. I can see from your pictures that your SVX had one of the faded purple vent pieces that many have (my old one included) but the fact that you can still see that purple strip of plastic at the top where the new piece of laminate stops spoils the whole effect. If not for that I could not say enough good things about it.

If Dayle reads this, and I am sure he will, why couldn't they design that piece to properly cover that vent? To me it is a glaring flaw that looks like @55 on an otherwise gorgeous product. See if you can get that corrected and I am sure you would sell a few more than you would otherwise. Myself included.

Johnny

Interesting. I went to the Motorsports site and looked at the dash kits. The wood kit pictured appears to wrap over the curve of the center vent like I would want it to but looking at pictures from Sid it does not appear to. Am I seeing your pictures incorrectly Sid? Perhaps a trick of lighting that makes it look like it does not wrap around?

Johnny

Edit: Nope, it's not an illusion. It does stop short of the curve.

it half covers the writing on the climate control unit as well... BLEH...

That and the huge gap where there are end to end panels...

I mean, dont get me wrong, from a distance its SEXY, but Im a bit of a perfectionist, and that bothers me.

Thank you guys for your reviews.
Anyway, Soobiesvx93, I stitch the steering wheel myself and I bought it from Dayle.

The AC vent has been revised to not cover the letters.
(Sid, if you got the old style ,let me know and Ill send you
a new one to replace it)
Johnny, we tried to have that top pcs bend around the top
of the vent, but over time the protective clear coat would split
and crack So we just cut it off lower to prevent that.
We are all up for trying to revise the kits to fit a little better
but I need someone in the Daytona FL area to go by my
manufacturer for about an hour or so to have them make new
templates

Ive sense painted that top area on a few of my cars either
dk grey or tan to match rest of the interior.

Agreed. It would be good to post revised pictures. Also, Dayle, painting that top strip is a good idea. While it's a shame that the clear coat cracks, it is a fair compromise I suppose. Why does it crack like that there and no where else? Do the pieces come pre-bent to mold to the curves or are they shipped flat and need to be bent when applied? That would explain the cracking as the outside radius curve would stretch the top coat lots. If that is the case it's a damn shame they cannot pre-mold the pieces for an exact fit.

they come flat in the box, if you set them in the sun for
about 15 min they become very flexible, and you could easily
bend it to the shape you needed and it would stay and
look great.
Just after a few months it would eventually crack and split.
they would replace it for free for lifetime, but that also gets
a little old
