Help - anyone near Plymouth?

Nice looking SVX for sale at a dealer in Plymouth. Looks like a Jap import. Anyone around there that could have a quick look for me to save a 4 hour drive to possibly be disappointed??!!

We go to Devon quite often to visit my parents, but not planning any trips in the near future. Have you tried emailing Richard? Haven't seen him around here for a long time.

That car's been advertised for at least 6 months, so you might get a good deal on it. Looks nice in the photo, definitely has an Alcyone badge on it.

Good Luck

Phil.

Have you looked at the one at Manhattan Motorhomes? A '96 with only 52k miles going for £6k.

Not too far from you either.

Looks like it has the plastic headlights too. £5k seems like a lot for an import. Mileage might be questionable too.

Spoke to the dealers' son yesterday. Doesn't like the car - his dad bought it off the docks. Says it is in excellent condition, 65k kms but of course no history to back this up.

Thanks for the info about how long it has been there - he said they had had lots of interest, but no deals due to poor p ex offers.

Was thinking of trying to meet him half way (if he will!) next weekend.

Looked at the other one Andy (on the Internet only) - that was the mileage I bought mine at - would just like the lowest mleage poss (and the cheapest!!) but a UK one would at least have the history to back it up!

I'll let you know what happens....

Talking Suck it and see

I must admit I agree with Andy.

There are two silver 96s on sale, one private, one a dealer. Both look good for the money, particularly if you are buying with no trade-in, you should see 500 to a grand tumble off the asking prices.

The private one also has BBS dropforged alloys, must be worth a few bob. If he still has the originals, you could kit them out with a set of winter tyres, have a spare set of wheels.

The mileage on the Plymouth one I could almost guarantee to be genuine. They all come in at about 70 thousand kilometres. I imported mine direct, and had the paperwork from the original owner, all in Japanese, but the mileage was correct. [They don't get clocked by the Japanese dealers, only by the intermediaries ] It is a type of owner that does low miles anyway. You should be able to tell by general interior condition.

I know the dealer guy is in Leeds, but they are all so close in price, that if it was me buying, I would drive them all, and choose the one that felt tightest.

You know the penalty for buying wrong with these cars.

Best of luck,

Choose wisely, glasshopper,

Joe

Hey Joe, I know the penalty, I am still paying for wrong pick up. When I was buying mine there were no others here available in "such a good shape". If you check www.autoscout.de you will see quite a lot to choose from:-). Now we are in EU it is much more easy and cheap to buy from other EU members. For you, unfortunately, with steering wheels on wrong side:-). But you have STi WR1 instead of us :-(

That looks to me like a Japan import. (No rear fog lights, rear wing.) The seller also notes that it's got 4 wheel steering, although it doesnt appear to be the model that came with that feature. You might want to double-check this with the seller.

I'm tracking it already!

I'm sure that this was on e-bay just a couple of weeks ago - I looked at it then and noted the unusual light grey interior and dashboard trim. Thought that it looked quite interesting. If it has 4 wheel steer, then it must be similar to Phil and Belhas car.

Looks like a nice car.

AFAIK, 4WS was only fitted in 1991/92. The seller is claiming this to be a 1994.

I would say, from looking at James' site that it's an S3 model. The year, wheels and interior give it away.

It is an S40 model, last JDM model with the black trunk/roof and no door lock cancellation switch. S40 models did NOT have 4WS.
