Question Baking open the headlights?

I have got a pair of UK glass headlights. I need to open them up to install the fog lamp which is in my plastic mucky ones, but not in the nice shiny English glass ones.

We do not seem to have this in the How-to.

Doug, Lwin, I know you guys pioneered this method, but I can't seem to access it on here[or anywhere!]:

Doug>>

Has it been taken down? Could someone please put a copy in the How-to?

Thanks

Joe

There is it.

Wait for the DNS to populate. Change in DNS servers.

Thumbs up Yo!

Thanks Lwin, and thanks Doug.

Perfect. Now have most of the info I need. I will probably wait for the right-hand-drive technical manual to arrive. The US one I have does not cover the wiring loom for it. You guys must never have been offered the headlamp tilting mechanism.

Mike, I will take some photos and post them up, but I will probably not get to do the install for a couple of months till the manual arrives.

I was lucky to get mine from a friend parting a car. With only 200+ sold in the UK, these are very scarce. Just the same Dayle recently posted he has got a pair, you might check if he has a regular source.

A better plan for you Mike would be to contact the German SVX club[Check Kusi's locker and website]. German cars have to have glass also because of the TuV. Their lamps would be more suitable for the US, as they also drive on the wrong side of the road, so their dips fire correctly to the right, rather than the English version, which would be throwing the dipped beam directly into the eyes of on-coming drivers in the US. Plus also they may have more cars there.

Joe

Question Hey Joe

Are you going to wait until Ann leaves the house for a couple of days to undertake this project?

Could make the dinners taste a bit off!

Exclamation WoW!

Yeah Todd,

Had not thought it through.

But on the other hand, if she is away, and comes back to the smell of burning rubber in the house, there is no telling what she might suspect.

Probably better if I am up-front about it.

I've baked my new lights a couple of days ago. They went really well. You should not smell anything funny at all. Don't over bake it. You don't want to melt it. You just want to melt the glue. Funny enought I redid mine with some hot glue to aid the current glue. Came out well.

As for UK lights in the US cars, you can do it. They have little adjustment notches at the back to aim the lights the right way.

Question

Aim the lights?

Do I take it to mean that the lamp inside is moved to aim the lights?

I would not have thought this would be enough. Dip pattern here drops the light from blinding the oncoming driver, but there is a high section to the left which is meant to illuminate the kerbside for the safety of pedestrians. This is achieved by the shape of the cuts in the lens. Moving the lamp or bulb can not defeat the effect of this lens throw. Light will still be high to the left, which must be a problem on your roads for oncoming drivers.

If we Irish are venturing onto the continent [LHD], we have to put diverter lenses over our lights, or else stick on a black triangle onto the part of our headlight that fires the light left and up.

Do the authorities not check which way your beams throw the light over there?? I thought the US was supposed to be stringent about safety??

Joe

As with most things American, we talk a lot about the rules, but follow through is pathetic.

Ahhhh, Democracy!!

Yes we did lose the puppy. Otto was born with 3 malformed heart valves. As he grew, his heart became less efficient. He was on a barrage of injections and medication to help but, he lost his fight last month.

We had explored heart surgery, but with a close to 100% mortality rate for heart operations on his breed, we decided to just do everything we coul to keep him happy.

Unhappy

Tough news man. Sorry to hear it.

Had a beautiful and lovable chocolate coloured Labrador one time, that needed loads of veterinary care. Spent fortunes on operations and medications on Coco, but, same as you, we lost her in the end.

Still think of her and smile though. Worth fighting for, I would say.
