Question Headlight leveling

Attempted to check the leveling on my headlights today, but the levels are definately off. I made it so both lights project at the same height but the left level says the light is too low and the right says its too high. Is there some type of a science to leveling the lights (ex. park 4ft from a wall, top of the beam should be 4ft above the ground)?

Yes there is. I have posted it before. I will search for it again and post it again. This is like the 4th time we had this question in the last 2-3 weeks.

Just off the top of my head, I remember distinctly TWO specific instructions from the manual: A) Have a full tank of gas, B) Have someone sitting in the driver's seat. Other than that, I can't remember any specifics.

the "levels" on the headlights are full of sh*t - ignore them. mine were supposedly perfectly level, but the lights were searching for aircraft flying overhead.

From the Autozone Article
How many times have we all been blinded by an oncoming vehicle and flickered our high beams, only to have the other driver melt our corneas by responding with their brights?

This sounds like the poor bastards who flash me when I'm running my fogs.

The levels are crap and will not help you! Try doing what I did:

-Fill tank up with gas
-Park on level ground
-Get to large white peg boards (3X5) and tape them together and set the bottoms of the boards on the floor, Get each headlight on each one of them
- Turn on lights and start adjusting...

It works relly well!!

Thanks everybody, I did follow the instructions (actually I only had half a tank). To tell you the truth, there is no difference in the height of the lights or levels with or w/o me in the drivers seat. The problem is definately the levels, like I said exact same beam height, but completely different level readings. Right now my headlights kind of aim down too low because I wanted to be sure I wasn't blinding anyone. The sights landshark and manofmayo posted are exactly what I was looking for, thanks guys. So basically 25ft away=2-3in lower

P.S. I know I've read a post on this before (probably by Lwin), but for some reason search doesn't return any logical results. I tried "headlight leveling", "headlight level", and "leveling" but no luck, unless its hidden in some strange post.

headlight levels

There is a small screw on the levels that appears to hold the level glass on to the carrier attached to the headlight assembly. The screw is spring loaded from underneath and can be used to adjust the "level" of the level. I just set the headlights where I wanted them and then adjusted the small screw to center the bubble. Now its easy to return to the original level if I remove the headlight assy.

YMMV.
