Enterchanging the MAF............
Heres the deal.......
As some of you know, I'm having a problem with my car. It's getting much worse. ^Someone^ was selling a MAF on here, for a 92. Well, evidently I got screwed. Now, that damn part is about impossable to ****ing find used, OR new. I called a few places, and asked if the MAF is enterchangable from 93-97 to a 92.......One doesn't even sell the part(Napa) and the Subaru dealership said their 'book' said the production YEAR for the SVX IS a 94.......? WTF? I am getting very pissed off about this subject. I am VERY pissed because the only one I found, I "BOUGHT" and I don't ****ing have it after a month! I need that ****ing part, and if the Subaru dealership says NOTHING about a 92, that means I'm totally F#$%@* I'm scared to drive my car, because every time it dies, the power steering goes out.(No ****) This morning when it died, I could have caused a HUGE accident. (I was turning a corner, and the weather spit snow like theres no tomorrow) After all of that........Only one question..... Can I buy(If I can find one) a MAF for my 92, if it is from another year?????And have it work in my car? Deja |

Subaruparts.com lists the same part number for both the '92 and '97 MAFs, so I would assume that they're interchangeable. It looks like an MAF from any year SVX will work.
I think that they're also interchangeable between models. I'm not certain, but I seem to remember somebody here putting an Impreza MAF in their car. That would be cheaper, too. I've found parts that are common between the SVX and Legacy that the dealers charge different amounts for, depending on which model you tell them it's for. I'm not kidding. If you're in a hurry, talk to your dealer. The part number for the SVX MAF is 22680AA200. If they're helpful, they'll try to find what other models that part was used for. And if your engine dies, you're darned tootin' you'll lose power steering. I know just how dangerous that is on the SVX - I lost a power steering hose on my SVX a few years ago and the car was nearly uncontrollable. That was on dry pavement - I can imagine that the problem is compounded by snow. Are you saying that a member here screwed you over on a deal? Did I get that right - you paid somebody for a part and never got it? That's not right, man...

THAT SUCKS!
However sold you the part better deliver. If not post their name so no one else gets screwed!!!
I can't speak for Legacy MAF sensors, but I do know that Impreza MAF sensors ('99 2.5 RS) DO NOT interchange. The plug is different. Other models, especially those of an earlier vintage, may work. Todd

Absolutely! Let's keep this community honest. If one member stiffs another (and I'm not talking about inadventent delays in shipping, or so forth), then post their names and let the axes fall. I recently saw a person who still owes me money, making an impassioned plea for a part, which disturbed me, but, I'm letting bygones be bygones. BUT, I won't sit quietly by and let members here be taken. If anyone uses this forum to rip people off, I'll take it personally.

So one thing is for sure, I can buy a MAF for the Impreza, and it will work in my car? (Well, maybe if it doesn't work, I could take it back......)
Yes, it is a member on the network. I contacted him back in Oct (I believe). I did pay him(It's kinda long, and would make me look VERY stupid) but either way I am sure I can't get my money from him. I want to post his name but I'm trying to give him the benifit of the doubt (Maybe out of town for a month.....) I've emailed him 3 times now, since I send the money, and he hasn't written back. If he doesn't write back in 1 week, I will post that he screwed me. Oh, and another thing. When I called the dealership today, they priced $450. for a 94' MAF assembly. Is that the part I need, or what? Thank you guys for helping. I am very upset about all of this. I have decided to keep the money from the insurance company(When someone hit me) to fix the engine problems, instead of the body. Deja Last edited by _-DejaVu-_; 12-09-2003 at 12:49 AM. |

I have several different Subaru MAFs floating around in the garage. I can check the ones from a 95 1.8L and a 96 2.2L and tell you if either physically fits the connector, which may help narrow down your search.

maf
When I drove my son Daves' svx back from FL ealier this year, the car would quit when the throttle position changed, a 1200 mile bummer. Anyway, the subaru select moniter said it was the maf. Since it was an intermittant problem, 3 times in 5 minutes or 5 times in 200 miles, I unscrewed and wiggled out the electrical plug. When it came out I broke all 4 soldered connections. Now not having anything to lose, I removed the square plastic top, that allowed me to re-solder the 4 connections, pop the top back on, and it's worked fine ever since. In my case, I got lucky, mabey you will too?

maf/ heater
I just looked your old posts about the temperature fluxuations, about the only two things that do that are low coolant level, or a bad water pump. When you check the coolant level, do it with the car on an uphill incline, so the air bubbles can work their way out of the system. Take the cold car, park it on a steep hill, remove tha rad cap, start and run the car with the defroster on high, fill as necessary and don't replace the cap untill it's at normal temperature. Subaru had cast aluminum thermostat housings on the svx's,where the bottom rad hose attaches to the engine, subaru also made them in plastic for outbacks and such, if its plastic it can leak without a trace. Is your underbelly pan in place? They run much cooler without one, good for summer, bad for winter.
