Which Tranny Cooler--B&M? Permacool? Other?

Okay. If my mechanic says that this 94 SVX I'm looking at (50K miles) has a good tranny, I'm gonna buy it and buy something to keep the tranny as cool as possible, run syth tranny fluid, and then just forget about the tranny altogether. Just something as inexpensive and easy as possible for my mechanic to install.

I know this subject has been beaten a bit, but I'm new and can't find the perfect thread here to address this.

So, on a 1994 SVX, is there some type of OEM recall tranny filter? I've read about B&M and PermaCool...will one of these systems augment or REPLACE an existing system? Um, well, uh, okay, I'm over my head already.

What's the simplest, most painless route here??

Thanks...

There is no recall but there is a TSB on the 92's.

Your tranny will have 2 filters:

- a screen filter inside the tranny oil pan
- a round filter seen at the bottom of the radiator on the driver's side that looks very similar to the fuel filter

Your 94 should already have that filter.

Not sure, depends on the size of the cooler and if you can find room for it.

Kinda pricey though.

you can get an aftermarket (and probably more effective) cooler, external filter, and a GAUGE for less than that thing!

Where is a good place on the web to look at/price aftermarket coolers, filters, and gauges?

if you want

"the best" SETRAB is what most ralley cars
use, and race oriented drivers. But expext to pay
about $200 for one or more....

B&Ms always been trusted for have great coolers
and trans parts for the last 20+ yrs...
whatever you do make sure you install it so its
not touching any other metal that gets warm or heats
up. You dont want heat transfer issues causing the cooler
not to work properly.

We did an install on a customers Svx a week or so ago..

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...threadid=14343

and have the B&M on our own car installed the same way.
