asking to cut the heart out of one of our great SVX cars

I can not believe someone came on the Facebook and ask where they could find a SVX to rip the engine and trash the dash for there VW crap bus. go to the wrecking yard and get a 3.0 there not in rare cars.

Re: asking to cut the heart out of one of our great SVX cars

We see it quite a bit but mostly WRX engines, I am not sure that I have seen a six stuffed in one yet. It makes me chuckle a bit, just find it kind of odd. If I was a VW fan I feel that I would probably want to stick to that brand of engine as well. To each their own I guess?

Re: asking to cut the heart out of one of our great SVX cars

I have seen and heard of several putting the EG33 in the Vanagon, it makes a gutless lump actually seem to have some go. Smallcar.com actually has many conversion kits explicitly for that purpose..

That being said I really hate to hear of anyone taking a decent roadworthy svx and stripping out the engine and wiring harness thus turning was could have stayed on the road into a shell that is pretty much only going to be good for parts. that being said if the shell is crap it doesn't bother me as much in fact if I were to ever want to get a Vanagon it would only be worthy if it had the EG33

I agree that they shouldn't destroy a perfectly good running SVX when as mentioned they can go to junk yards and get EG33 engines. I know of one that says they have several. I myself have a brand new EG33 in storage that has never been installed in a car yet.

Re: asking to cut the heart out of one of our great SVX cars

we used to put ford and chevy small blocks into vw pinto vegas but you could get them any ware. they weren't out of rare cars. I have completely stripped 2 svx car in pull and save just to save everything on one they were supposed to save it for me to buy complete. one was drove in about 80 miles. and just like those cars we did back then there only worth something to the guy that owns them to me its a waste to put a 3.3 in a VW and I have a bug sitting here. There are plenty of wrecked Porsche out there to get a motor out of. it like having a 57 strat and a chinese copy you break the neck on the chinese so you rob the neck of the original

^^^ This. The converted vehicles are highly sought after by Vanagon aficionados too.

There's a guy on this forum with an EG33 in an airplane. IIRC he kicks butt in his class with it.

Re: asking to cut the heart out of one of our great SVX cars

There are 2 Syncro Vanagons for sale right now in the classifieds on TheSamba dot com.

$49,000 for one.
$57,000 for the other.

These are amazing machines worthy of the 3.3- in my opinion. They will take the spirit of the SVX to places it cannot go otherwise. The Syncromesh 4wd is a beast.

But, without the Syncro, the van is unworthy, I agree.
