crankshaft pulley

I need to replace the crankshaft pulley for the third time. Does anyone have a better replacement than the Subaru OEM pulley? There are numerous lightweight
OEM size (not under drive)for the other Subaru 2/2.5 l engines but nothing I have found for our 3.3l SVX engines. Any suggestions other than OEM Subaru, which has failed for the third time!!!

Re: crankshaft pulley

There may be something else causing the failures. I never replaced a pulley on any of my 3 SVX and one of them had nearly 400,000 km. The '97 I am driving is close to 300,000 km.

The 2.5 pulley is the same I believe.

Re: crankshaft pulley

I did a search for crankshaft pulleys and found numerous posts about failures so I don't think this is caused by anything but design/manufacture problems, since the cause is almost always the separation of the rubber damper. I want to change to a one piece design and it seems that the pulleys from all models (legacy/impreza/outback/forester/WRX, STI? 2/2.5l) can be swapped even though they don't have a rubber damper; one post even has a quote from SOA concerning the damper where SOA says the damper is not needed because the SVX (all) boxer engines are INTERNALLY balanced. I don't want an under drive (Smaller) pulley but I could use a lightened OEM sized pulley; when I look at the lightened pulleys on Ebay for other Subaru models, they all look like they are not the same outside diameter as the OEM SVX pulley; they look smaller. Any recommendations or suggestions for an OEM SVX sized lightened pulley?

Re: crankshaft pulley

All of the EJ pulleys are the same as the EG33. so any light oem sized one piece pulley for the EJ22,25 etc will work I personally have the Perrin https://www.perrin.com/shop/engine/l...ey-for-wrx-sti

If you click the red box they are still in stock. same product, but a different color.

MY pulley is red, for some reason it defaults to black when you click the link.

Re: crankshaft pulley

Thank you everyone for your input. Since this is my daily driver I needed to get it back on the road quickly. I was able to get a pulley, in stock, from a local Auto Zone that was listed for a 93 Legacy for $50. I will purchase a Perrin pulley so that when I change my timing belt in a few months, I will just swap the new one piece pulley and keep the Auto Zone as a spare for my other SVX.

Re: crankshaft pulley

I thought I was finished w/this thread but while checking pulleys on Ebay, I came across a listing for a pilled set that included the power steering/alternator/ crankshaft pulleys, but for the BRZ. Since the pulleys on every other Subaru model are the same, is this true also for the BRZ? I;m really only interested in adding the power steering pulley since the Perrin pulley seems the pulley of choice but a complete matching set would look nice,

the power steering and alt pulleys of the BRZ are not the same, That motor is the FA? or is it FB motor and I am not sure if anything is compatible. but I am fairly sure that the power steering pulley of the EG is only compatible with the EG

Re: crankshaft pulley

Just want to chime in and say I have had the Perrin Lightweight Crank Pulley from my old Impreza RS installed in my SVX for years now.
