crankshaft wabble
my crankshaft pulley is wabbling up, down, and side to side. It has gotten progressively worse. It's not the pulley as the bolt head moves to the same extent. My first thought was either oil pump or the motor is burnt due to a bad main bearing. Does anyone know whether the pulley bolts directly to the crank or is there an intermediate shaft in the oil pump that the pulley bolts to. BTW bolt is tight for all those looking for obvious answers.
thanks, Chris |

Check to see if the harmonic balancer isn't cracked (the pulley is part of it) - mine was! My guess is this happens when someone along the way gets too "happy" with the tensioner and puts way too much side load on the balancer. If it's cracked, replace it quick as it can mess up the front seal big time. I'll see if I can't take a digital picture of mine (it's sitting around somewhere in the garage) and post it here.

I've got an extra crank pulley if you end up needing one.
