You're sure its 40 mm offset and not more? I've had my 7.5" wide x 48 mm offset wheels deep inside the rear fenderwells, and there's only about 10 mm of space between the face of the plastic fenderlip and the sidewall of the tire. A 9" wide wheel/tire combo with a 48 mm offset will stick out 20 mm further than mine. With a 40 mm offset, it would be sticking out almost 30 mm more than mine. Not only would the fender plastic be in the way, but the metal car body itself would be in the way. There should be no way that combo will fit without rubbing when the suspension is compressed even if the offset is 40 mm.

Significant Technical Input
Re: Re: Rear camber pins fitted

I saw the pic and he definitely has the face of the wheel sitting flush with the outside of the metal like it was when i mounted the 9 inch wide wheels. It says something about camber pins in the topic of his post. I think he's just put a bunch of camber in to stop the top edge from rubbing.

In a search I found a post by yourself about camber and handling ..my wheel guys ended using the camber setting close to what you stated, was std set up for an STi.

longassname

Your statement re dialling in/out camber to correct the rubbing is right...a similar setting to mbtoloczko has /had on his car to improve handling...I just get a bit more than just tweeking the cars handling..

Also to identify where it was rubbing as it was slight...We compressed the suspension, drove each side at the rear separately on to wooden block, the side on the block we then loaded with weight...inside of wheel arch [black plastic strip] was scraping on the tyre shoulder down onto the writing on the side wall..after adjustment it clears

On roundabouts and bumps no more scraping, I will take a photo of rear to show you how it looks

Cool Fresh paint pics tomorrow

wheels and tyres working nicely..
put car into paint shop to tidy up faded red mirrors [no black band anymore ..all red !! looks good !!, rear 3/4 panels [plastic also] as well as faded bonnet, worn/faded wiper arms [in black matt again], and i also got Alcyone SVX badge for the bonnet, which we fitted...black badge looks good against the red paint..
Night photos with my digi don't do justice..
.. driving around town today had 3 or 4 cars wanting to 'drag' off at the lghts, even some goose in Corolla..get outa here !!

Had my car parked at the local Mickey D's when I came out to go a guy and his mate had parked across the front of me with one of the guys sitting at my front wheel just staring !!.."I reckon these wheels would look great on my RX7 !! ...it does look good but hey I'll fire off some shots...the 9s on the back certainly give the car a 'fat' stance on the road.

Here you go

Sicksubie, try this thread pics, and plenty of info etc...warning tho watch your rolling diameters diff front to back - if you're wanting to run diff sizes fr to back..the AT is very sensitive to it...if I were to do it all over again I'd probably run 8's in rim widths both ends and try 255/35x18's on all corners...

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...3&page=2&pp=15

Thanks for asking tho and reviewing this past thread with my pics...I still miss the SVx's, a great looking car etc etc and I still get a tingle when i see one on the road ..very rare around here now

regards

revival of old thread....

so let me get this straight, one can run staggered wheels as long as the offsets are sufficiently different so at to allow the same amount of "ACTUAL" wheel offset... ie +49 8" front +35 9" rear??

this opens a whole new world of wheels ....
or not?

offset

Its going back a bit now but I'm sure I remember that offset on the rear can't be any lower than 40 ie not 38 etc, if yuo ran a 9 in, as it sticks out too much..40 or higher ...but also remember the key to running staggered wheels on the SVX is the rolling diameters of front to back have to be real close..as i said if I were to have another SVX I'd 8in wide both ends and 255 rubber

more importantly, you've got to make sure the outside diameter of the front and rear tires are the same. Offset & tire width come into the play when it comes to actually fitting the tire/rim combination inside the wheel wells without rubbing. Ex. a 245/45-16 tire on a 16" rim with 50mm offset will fit the back and front without rubbing (expecially if you're running ~1.5 degrees of negative camber front and back)

That's What I'm Talkin' About...

SVXRide has it right:

"Ex. a 245/45-16 tire on a 16" rim with 50mm offset will fit the back and front without rubbing..."

That's what I've got on my 16 x 8 in. wide RX7 wheels and no rubbing with stock OEM with 100,000 mi. on the suspension.
