15th Anniversary Song
OK, it's partly plagerized, and mostly untrue, but I assembled a 15th anniversary SVX Song, and put it in my locker. It's the first time I've ever used my locker, so it took me a while to figure out that the original mp3 file at 5 meg wouldn't fit. This one's about a meg. The song is your typical story...guy sees new SVX in showroom, falls in love, goes broke trying to pay for it, grows up to be a middle class suburbanite, owns lots of other toys now, but just can't part with his old SVX, which he has affectionately named "Built to Crash". Probably someone out there has a similar tale to tell.

Good job, but I have a problem with the name "Built to Crash". That is just wrong.

Yea, you're right Earl. But I just kept thinking of the Subaru ad that said something like "drive fast; get lots of tickets..", and I always finish the statement with "...and wreck your new car!" Besides "crash" rymes with almost everything .

True, but I don't like the images that I get in my mind when I hear that.

Congratulations Cappy.
Please post the words as text. Not promising anything, but will have a go at making it into an original ballad, with a melody including a few more chords to lift it up a bit. Damn good effort, Trevor P.S. Your vocal is right up there. What key are you using, singing/playing, based on usual 440 pitch?

I played it in "C", with "A" at 440, but then when I sang it, I transposed it down to either "B-flat" or "A" (I forget).
Anyhow, here are the words. As I said, I take no credit since I lifted about half of them from an old song I heard years ago. “BUILT TO CRASH” (The SVX Song by Cappy) Well, I got me a car that I call “Built to Crash”, It was made by Subaru but it sure ain’t no trash. It goes a hundred fifty five, I know for a fact, And the one I got does 90 in a quarter-mile track. It’s called an SVX, and I don’t know what that means But it eats high octane gas, like a NASCAR machine. The first day that I saw it on the showroom floor I just knew I had to get one if it made me poor. So I sold all of my toys and borrowed to the hilt ‘cause it cost a freakin’ fortune, but oh man was it built. When I got a credit rating, I just had to go And to get this car, I traded in my used Volvo. Well, welcome to the real world, stay to the right; The only time you dream is in your bed at night. When you grow to be a man, sep’rate from the boys, The only thing that’s diff’rent is the size of the toys. So let me tell you ‘bout old “Built to Crash” The front seat is covered in cigarette ash. The trunk it smells like beer, and vomit and piss And the back seat is where I got my first real kiss. It took ten years to pay off all those personal loans But for fifteen years it’s been my second home. Well, welcome to the real world, stay to the right; The only time you dream is in your bed at night. When you grow to be a man, sep’rate from the boys, The only thing that’s diff’rent is the size of the toys. Well, I got me a woman, it was love at first sight, We’ve been married for ten years now and we hardly ever fight. We’re payin’ all our bills; we’re not owned by the bank ‘cause my wife’s a CPA and I’ve got her to thank. We own two other cars, both were paid with cash, But my heart’s still driving old “Built to Crash”. I go to work in a Saturn sedan My wife she drives a Lexus, but whenever she can, She’ll ask me when I’m gonna junk that death-trap on wheels, But I guess she’ll never understand how good it feels. I pray we’ll never part, to the Jesus on the dash Of my rusted, dusted broken in, “Built to Crash”. (repeat chorus) “Well, welcome to the real world, stay to the right…” I think I’ll drive on up to garbage hill, Where the ghost of adolescence is living still. I’ll smoke a couple of Cubans I snuck over the bridge, And watch the sun go down over Pleasant Ridge. That’s how I get away from this reality trash Just me and Fidel Castro, and old “Built to Crash”.
