Antenna frozen

Not on the SVX but rather on my XT. It has water in it and doesn't wanna go up and down right (hasn't for about a week due to the cold weather). Just wondering what other people use to keep it from freezing. I've tried graphite (no luck), wd-40 (works but attracts dirt and dust), oil (ditto for wd-40) and wheel bearing grease (just a freaking mess). Anybody have a better suggestion other than parking it inside.

That would also attract dust and dirt though wouldn't it? If no one has invented a substance maybe I'll have to build a lab in the basement and become so rich I can afford more SVXs than Earl!

It probably would attract a bit but not as much as WD-40, etc. Another thing to try is isopropyl alcohol, which repels water and keeps ice from forming on surfaces...it's what they use in aircraft de-icer systems...you can buy it at CVS, Brooks, etc. where they sell rubbing alcohol. Just make sure you get isopropyl.

Wink

When using the heated mirror feature, it should also direct current to the antenna. Mine does. Yeah...that's the ticket.

Ron.

L's don't have the added weight of the heated mirrors . Besides I'm really not asking for my SVX as she's hibernating but rather for the XT

What about using some sort of dry lube, Bob? Something Teflon-based?

I've just been listening to CD's on days when my antenna only goes 1/2 way up....
