Blinking Power Light

I thought I read somewhere that if the power light is blinking for 10 seconds when you first start the car this is indiciative of a problem. Can someone confirm this? Just looked at a 92 today that was doing that (among others things including smoking noticably from what appears to be an oil leak on the front right side of the engine). Thanks

Yes that is the indication. Something is wrong with the transmission. It could be any of the solenoids, dropping resistor, temperature sensor, etc.... You can find relevant posts if you search on diagnostic. There is a method of using the shift lever and manual button that will read the memory and flash codes on the power light. Transmission Control Unit (TCU) is the computer for the trans.

I thought the power light was supposed to flash when you first start the car, same as the oil, alt, ect., to show the bulb is good.

I want a ride in the manual transmission SVX? What do you say? I want to know if it is F A S T E R.

The power light comes on when the key is turned to the on position. This is to check the bulb. After the engine starts the power light is supposed to go out if there are no troubles with the TCU.

Of course your power light in your MANUAL Tranny SVX means nothing now.

Nope, it shouldn't *flash*, it's just on and off, as "commuter" said. If your light is flashing, it's a trouble indicator. If your oil, alt and etc. lights are "flashing" you're in big trouble.

Well, that is what I meant, to flash on when you start it, then go out. I didn't want "0260N4" to think that just bacause it lit up when starting the car ment there was a problem.

On my 5-speed swap the light doesn't come on at all, probably because I removed the TCU, huh

And yes the manual is quicker.
