Injector tip caps

I have a '92 LSL. When I removed the injectors, the red small plastic caps surrounding the spray tip fell into pieces. All six did. I don't think they had been out before. 22 year old plastic will do that.

Are the caps needed for proper functioning of the injectors? If they are needed, do you know where I can get new ones?

Please send email to dencan@yahoo.com or text 724-650-7132.

Thanks.

Re: Injector tip caps

Those generally come with an injector rebuild or reseal kit. Should be easy to come by as many cars, especially nissans, use the same style injector. Napa will have them for sure.

Re: Injector tip caps

They are called pintle caps - I ordered some from nissan along with O-rings when I did my injector upgrade.

If they are missing, the fuel pressure can push the lower O-Rings off of the injectors allowing an unlimited flow of fuel into the intake manifold/head destroying the engine.

Re: Injector tip caps

Haven't a clue which one you need but this place seems to have all manner of the caps for sale.

(link goes to a Nissan one, many variations available)

I've found the Nissan places are cheaper for the same thing, pintle caps and injector o-rings, than subie places and typically get mine from a local Z place for about 2 bucks each, which is usually cheaper than online stores when shipping needs to be paid for. As for missing caps, I have pulled injectors from motors with as many as 3 different caps per set, sometimes some with no caps and even when servicing super low mileage, like 12k miles, cars at the dealership, that are mismatch. I doubt that a minivan with 12k on it had any aftermarket injectors installed, mostly because it is a minivan. lol
I honestly don't think most, if any, actually require the pintle caps to operate properly, but I may be wrong. BUT if OT says that they serve a specific function, I would heed his word.

If you measure the hole where the lower O-Ring goes into, sealing it with the lower O-Ring, it is just that, a hole of a constant size.
If the fuel pressure (36.3 psi) pushes against the O-Ring and it has no pintle cap to keep it into place, then fuel can rush by flooding the engine.
PS, Thank you confused one for having faith.

Ah, yes. The dreaded suicide by hydro-lock! lol I've been dealing more with top feeds lately and forgot the svx uses side feed injectors.
