Track Time/ AutoX with those other boxer powered cars..what to do?
Woohoo..I just found out that the Porsche Club of America has track days and AutoX around here. http://www.rgvpca.org/faq.htm
The next one is in late September, so I have a little time to get my SVX ready...but what should I do to it so I can make a decent showing, keeping in mind I'm not made of $$ right now. Here's my short list right now: 1. Buy Helmet ~$90 Looking at a SA2000 rated, open face one probably unless you have a better idea? Like this one... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=7984261653 2. Turn or Replace rotors, bleed brakes (requirement for the Track day, is that you bled them in the past 2 weeks). I flushed all the brake fluid last year, so I think I'm good there. 3. Pump up the 'Turbo Traction' ? tires. 4. Take all the junk out of the trunk and everywhere else. 5. Hopefully - rig up 2nd tranny cooler w/ fan ala Immortalsuby What else? Should be lots of fun...

1. I got my full face on EBAY for about $55 shipped
2. Flush them again... Valvoline Sythetic in a brownish gold bottle is only a little more than the cheap stuff and good to temps ~475*. I saw the map of the course you're racing on, it will definately test your brakes. It probably wouldn't hurt to have an extra set of pads and rotors to get home with?? 3. Any empty parking lots you can play around in?? Start off about 42f/38r and adjust from there. Remember those things are going to get HOT=higher pressure after the first run. 4. Have you seen pictures of our race car?? 5. That wouldn't hurt, especially in the geographic center of hell that you call home Or you could ship me, Ben and the Racer down, and we'd help ya' put a whooping on those porche' boys

I think I'd rather have a open face. I've snowmobiled with the full face helmet and didn't like 'view'. Also, I don't figure on having a DIAF type crash while out there, (knocking on wood) plus it's going to be hot, so I don't need my head baking any more than necessary..

My advice - take the XT!
That's no way to treat a limited edition SVX. If you insist on the SVX the best advice to keep your times down is practice. It may also be a good idea to check on all the rubber mounts under the car. Replace any that are worn. This will keep your car more nimble and responsive.

What Dave said + start saying to yourself "Look ahead, look ahead, look ahead"
-Bill p.s. also turn your rear view mirror sideways during your runs - keeps it from providing images you can pick up with your periferal (sp?) vision

1. If you would go to a track day. Most require a full face SA2000 or newer so you're not gonna get to use your helmet and may have to rent or borrow. 2. For autoxing you can definately use a open face. Just needs to be M2000 or newer (M is cheaper than SA and if you have questions go back to #1) 3. I beat Dave by a good second this past Sunday. We both baked in a steel box with no good airflow windows BUT he drank water, I didn't so I lost a good 10lbs (and a second) to take first . SUCK IT UP. You're not from the land of frozen tundra anymore! You're a Texan so ACT LIKE ONE! Seriously, change your brake fluids, might wanna think about water wetter in the coolant as well WORKS GREAT! Up that tire pressure and have a ball.

Hay thats cool!!!. Thats the same club I'm gonna be racing with, but in the CVR area. Those Porsche guys seem pretty cool about letting anything run with them.
I think I would go with an open face helmet too, It's all I've ever needed in all the racing I've done......well except for carting, so maybe I'll get a full face???

I think I would use for engine oil a Mobil 1 20w-50 oil with Lucas syn additive.
For the coolant sytem 75%water, 25%coolant, redline water wetter additive and take out the center grill. I agree with new brake pads, thick rotors ( near max Thickness) and vavoline syn fluid flushed thru the system.

Ive seen, and read some scary things about the lucas aditives. I dont have the website any more but a oil testing company had a write up on the efects of it in most types of oil, and pretty much it did alot of harm by casuing airation (bubbles) in the oil. Even just using the little examples at part stores, with the gears that you twist with the lever if you twist it really fast, and twist the regular oil really fast so should notice a huge amount more airation in the lucas oil. I would just use regular mobil 1, with out aditives. I figure if the mobil 1 enginears wanted something else in the oil that would significatley improve it they would of put it in sence it cost about what $4.50 a quart, i dougtht this oil can really be improved.
