AC Compressor availability

So I think things have changed a bit since I last had a SVX. From what I can tell you can't buy new or remanufactured AC Compressors. At least not that I can find. I see there is a listing on eBay for $250 where they will rebuild it after you send it in. Has anyone used them or had a local shop rebuild it? I am not entirely sure I need it but in my testing everything is pointing that way.

Re: AC Compressor availability

Hi,

New AC compressors have not been available for a long time.

Can you explain what problem you are currently having with it before rebuilding?

I had a problem with the electromagnetic clutch on my compressor a few years ago. This symptom has been frequently reported. In this case, the radiator fan fuse will blow.

When you turn on the air conditioner switch, does the clutch operate with a clicking sound?

If the clutch works fine and the refrigerant is not leaking, but the refrigerant pressure does not build up, the problem may be with the compressor.

If the problem is only the electromagnetic clutch, rewinding the coil may fix it. In this case, there is no need to replace the refrigerant, so it will be a simpler repair.

I ended up replacing the compressor with a used one. That fixed the issue with the fan fuse blowing. I’m going to try to take the clutch off to see if it can be fixed by rewinding as you suggested. Either way I’m keeping it as a rebuildable spare. Thanks

Re: AC Compressor availability

Hi,

For your information. I will note the web page that did it by DIY.

http://p-gtr.car.coocan.jp/aircondi.htm

I did same things for SVX though above site is not same car but maybe AC compressor maker is same (Calsonic).

In this era, Subaru shared many parts with Nissan.

SVX parts are valuable and should not be thrown away. If your problem is a blown fuse, it's probably repairable.
