Another Stock Radio and CD Player

I justed pulled the unit out of the car last week. They are in mint condition and work. Strictly the unit, I need the chasis for the new stereo. I'll entertain offers for people that are looking for these, but I do have a general idea what they are listed and going for... Just lloking to sell them for a fair deal. Thanks everyone!!

I went to swap my stock unit yesterday with another stock unit, but, met with some heavy resistance when trying to pull the unit out. I had it out about two inches when it hung. Rather than manhandling the unit out and risk breaking something, I simply put it back in and figured I'd wait and ask someone. What's the secret of pulling the darned thing out without breaking something. If it resists, do you just yank? Your help would be appreciated.

What are you yanking out? I have taken out the stock and played with the chasis a few times. Is the metal piece not comming out or the wires at the back are pulling your unit in?

For some unknown reason they like to route the antenna leads funky. That's most likely what's hanging you up. Pull off the lower console trim on the drivers side and find the antenna wires, then follow them up to where they meet the leads from the unit. You can unplug them and it should pop right out. When reinstalling, I always used to reroute them so that you could pull the radio out without all the hassle. (Not that I might ever do it again, but I'm not one of these guys that think the next poor slob that works on the car should have as many headaches as me.)

Radio Madness!!!!

Here's the deal. Granted, even though I have the dealership manuals there was no well explained technique!

I will preface all by saying it was trial and error, but am happy that I broke NOTHING or damage the car! I was amazed too...

I found first that I had to remove the backing of the drop face off. I took the backing off by just prying it with a small flat head screw driver. That allowed me to remove the black rim cover that surrounds the edges of the units. There are two plastic hooks that are located behind that plate on the top right and left coner. Grab the top of the plate and push down gently and it will pop. Remeber not to push hard enough unitl you hear plastic break!

After that is off. there are four phillips screws, two on the top and two on the bottom. Those are the only things holding the radio(the metal chasis which contains the receiver and the cd player) in the car.

This is where I believe that many of us got to, and were afraid to continue. The chasis does move a bit and does meet with some resistance to leave its home(like a hermit crab from its shell). Keep the drop face cover underneath. and I found that sticking a finger in the tape deck was the only way to pull it out.

The resistance was coming from the vinly on the side of the center consol. The sides of the chasis were grabbing underneath the material and not allowing it slide out. I was ble to hard enough to get the edge of the material to bend back and get the unit out. Thats were I finally went for broke, and got out damage free, luckliy though. I was able to stick a flat head to coax the hinge of the door past the vinly that was catching. The right side of the chasis is which gave me the trouble. The hinge sticks further out and there is a plastic stop on that side which stops the door from dropping too much.

Now the good info. I know that on the 92 SVX(at least mine), by the time I measured the lenght of the current radio and the clearance of the buttons in the front, I figured that you can fit any raio that with buttons or knick knacks that stick out,the total lenght can be just shy of 7 7/8 inches. If anyone else has other numbers, please drop me a line.

Well, now that the cat is out of the bag, I supposed there will be a lot other radios for sell. ****!!!! Please buy mine though!!!! LOL!!!

E-mail if no-one can understand my rantings! It all makes sense in my world!

I had the antenna leads unplugged, but, you're probably right, they were probably getting hung up in the routing. I didn't pull the console trim. I'll make sure I do this the next time -- when I get back my nerve to tackle it again.
