Bronze or tinted factory glass?

Anyone know how to tell if the factory glass is bronze or tinted, especially with aftermarket tinting added?

if the car interior color was tan it received bronze color tinted glass
if the interior was grey, it received grn/blue color tinted glass

Not sure if that's a rule of thumb....my 92 claret with grey leather has bronze tint. Most blue or bluish tint Windows were later years and blue or teak color svxi...

My '92 Ebony grey interior has blue, '92 Claret grey interior has bronze, '97 Bordeaux tan interior has bronze.
I think '92 is the exception to the rule.

what I said is true about how the factory did it.
I am sure there are a lot of cars that at some point had to had a windhield replaced, and if it got replaced in or around 1996, it would likely have been whatever glass they had at the time….
Now, only blue tint is readily? (if one can say ) available.

So, 1997, tan interior, driver's side sliding window, would only be bronze. And, if I ever replace the windshield, I'd want to go bronze to match.

All colors that had tan velour or tan leather, had bronze glass (94-97)
All colors that had gray cloth, gray velour or gray leather, had green/gray glass

For example, 1996 Polo Green "L" (Gray cloth) had green/gray glass. The 1995 Polo was the same, but it had and intermediate "LS" model ( which had an upgraded tan Cloth interior (so the glass was bronze) The 1996 Polo "LSi" with tan leather has bronze glass

The exception was the claret with gray leather and bronze glass

for the windshield.

65001PA230 (Blue) $1,027.26 fits LSi
65001PA210 (Bronze) $1,130.00 fits LSi
65010PA300 (Green) $915.00 (no titanium-oxide coating)

My Subaru dealership originally confirmed there are 15 blue SVX windshields in their inventory.

Westampton RDC (NJ) has 3
Indianapolis RDC (IN) has 3
Atlanta RDC (GA) has 3
SDC Warehouse has 6

Part Number: 65001PA300
Supersession(s): 65001PA210; 65001PA230; 65010PA300


Since all part numbers were superceded to this one (65001PA300) it would be nice to know if any of these 15 ever had the original part number on the box ending in 210 (bronze)



UPDATE

After talking directly with SOA yesterday afternoon, here is the latest information.

There ARE 15 windshields available for the SVX.
They are all blue. No bronze anywhere in the system anywhere. And they are just the glass without the rubber molding seal around the outside. You can try to use the old molding, but that usually doesn’t work as they get dried out and brittle from UV rays.

SOA strongly implied that this part number is not superceding old part numbers and were combined into one, but rather a new part number for a remanufacture.

They said as the old numbers for both the bronze and blue glass were depleted from inventory, they ceased to exist. However, demand was still present so another batch was made to fill need, in one color only, with a new part number.

There is the possibility that the windshields are old stock that were in Japan, and recently shipped to the U.S., but they would have retained the old part numbers.

The consensus is that these windshields were recently manufactured (within the past year) in small quantities, with the new part number. They have been in U.S. Inventory less than 30 days.

When the supply is exhausted in U.S. inventory, they may add more, but only in the blue color. Maybe the color was altered slightly to be compatible with both interiors.

But I hate to say that I seemed to have gotten the last bronze windshield on the planet back in 2011

I accidentally found it in a nationwide parts search for the bronze glass part number, Located it at a dealer in Sacramento, CA.

Evidentally someone ordered it about 7 years ago and did not pick it up. Rather than return it to the general inventory, the dealer just decided to store it because they would eventually sell it. Since it was never returned, it never showed up as being available again by Subaru.

I actually had the parts guys there check to see if it was actually there and had the correct part number. They confirmed yes to both questions. They actually opened the dusty box and inspected it to make sure it was bronze.

I paid for it right then and had them store it until I could arrange for safe shipping. I had EuroMotors in San Francisco pick it up from the Sacramento dealer. Euro Motorcars stored it until it was shipped along in an enclosed trailer with 4 cars they were sending to their East coast office in Bethesda, MD.

My local glass install shop, which does all my business, drove down to Bethesda to pick it up, inspect it for damage and integrity, brought it back and store it at his ship safely until I need it.








If and when I need it, will install it. If I sell the Polo before then, windshield goes with the car. I also have a complete beige carpet, still in plastic, that I bought many years ago as well.

If a windshield breaks, and you own a spare one that is no longer available, the insurance company will NOT pay you for a part that you already own, or to have it installed, but the would pay for it if they found it at a dealer or other inventory


So to get around this, my auto glass shop is storing it for me at his shop. If I break a windshield, I report it to my insurance, they authorize my glass shop to "find" me one.

They "find" it quickly and pay me for the windshield. Once it is in, they send their invoice to the insurance company to be paid back for the parts and labor.

This is not fraud. It just assures me that the insurance company would pay for another windshield per my policy as they always did. This step just assured me it would be the bronze one with no surprises.

You havent really met cozykat. I passed that xcessive baton to her long ago. She has a spare OEM part of just about every one produced, nuts, special bolts and fittings, complete wiring harnesses, all new seals, weatherstripping and moldings, gaskets, every piece of glass....

The correct rubber moulding is bonded to the entire perineter. a new dam is included.

THE dam also comes with the windshield. It says the part number is obsolete and not available separately and no newer PN available. Other Subaruwebsites say it is available.
