Help with P/W

Greetings All,

I need a little help with the power windows for the passenger side. When I bought my car, the master power window switch was not working well. The driver's side would not open but the passenger sides all worked. I ordered a brand new master switch from liberty subaru and installed it today. When I was testing it out, the existing problem with the driver's side window was solved. Both rear windows also worked. The only problem was the passenger front. The window went down but would not come back up. When I press the switch for up, I would hear a click but nothing would happen. Anyone can give me suggestions? Is the motor bad? It was working ok before I changed the switch, I put the other switch back, same problem. Also I tried the switch on the passenger front side as well. Same problem.

Unfortunately, I do not have a garage so if it rains I'm screwed. Please advise or give suggestions!

Thanks for your help!

Open and not shut case.

Hi Noir

Seems strange it worked before. If the switch kept the motor driving the window down with no let off, it would blow a fuse, check fuse 15, 10Amps. However, this would probably stop all windows.

Most likely the cause is a motor burned out, or there is a regulator for each motor on the frame of the door low down which could be faulty.

However, make sure you have the connectors on tight, and also check the earth on any looms near the window motor.

You will probably have to take off the door panel to check this out. When it is off, check all connections. If nothing is obviously loose, you have a problem for an auto electrician. However, at this point you should be able to manually move the window up in it's groove. You may have to take off the winder mechanism to do this if the motor is dead, and jam up the window in position until you get a motor or regulator.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Joe

re: regulator

i'm leaning towards the regulator. i hear a clicking noise when pressing the window down button. pressing the window up button makes no noise. can the motor go bad so that it'll only go down vs up? damn i wonder how much and how long will it be to get a regulator (and to put it in ).

Don't go that road!

Harry

Todd [wawazat] has a wrecked SVX, he may have both motor and regulator at reasonable price.

Also, ask Beav how you might put on a meter to see which is gone, before you spend the money getting parts.

Are you sure it isn't just the "sleeve?"

Check this thread: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...ight=Regulator

If so, here's a how-to.

From our friend, Victor in Canada:

Price of part from local dealer: $8.84CDN.

Pics are in my locker for the disassembly process.

1) Remove felt from door handle/storage, and remove 3 screws.
2) Remove panel from underneath door opening latch/handle, and remove 2 screws.
3) Remove 2 screws at the "front" of the door, and pry the door panel from the bottom to remove. Panel is held in place by plastic snaps.
4) Remove the trim/armrest support by removing the two screws. Peel back plastic for weather proofing.
5) Adjust the window motor cable using the power window switch until the little "nut-looking" piece on the cable is in this area. Fit the "sleeve lock regulator" onto this "nut". Adjust window manually about 1/2 way down. You will see the black metal support attached to the glass, with a square opening in the middle. Put sleeve lock regulator into opening and slide into place for a snug fit.
6) Reverse removal procedure.

Time: Less than 30 minutes.

Who said this car is expensive to fix?

(I should learn to keep my mouth shut in case my car hears me and breaks something expensive...)

Snap!

Good Call RW... This happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Got the "Snap, Crackle and pop, then nothing.

If you hear a "whir" when the button is pushed, I don't think your problem is the motor. The "Sleeve Lock Reg" is a 30 minute fix with a Phillips screwdriver.

re: don't think it's the sleeve

ab, i don't think it's the sleeve. i already took it apart and i can hear the clicking sound when i press down (well the window is already down). when i press up no sound is made and nothing happens. not quite sure what it is. i only see two main units that control the window movement: motor and regulator. if there's more let me know.

AHA! I hope they'll refund your money. Glad it was something simple. It don't usually turn out that way.
