Beautiful machines, have been thinking of buying one. Made for race series between 1999 - 2004, I believe, and limited number per year. I am biased since I have been riding the same BMW since 1971.

Yeah, BMW has thought that for almost 90 years now.

The Max Friz-designed 1923 R32 was genius, and they've stuck with it ever since. It had some of the radial engine benefits, and fit well in a motorcycle chassis with only two opposed cylinders, exposed to air cooling.

Karl Benz had patented the flat engine design in 1896. BMW Motorcycles, and Ferdinand Porsche's designed VW later adopted the general engine layout.

BMW motorcycles continue to use it to this day, as do Porsche cars.

Citroen, Chevrolet Corvair, Lancia, Alfa, and Subaru followed on later, as did Lycoming, and other aviation piston engine producers. A helicopter-sourced flat 6 was used in the Tucker Torpedo, as well.

On a personal level, when I was in college my room-mate had an R50/5 toaster-tank BMW bike that his father handed down to him. His father still had an R100RT and and Indian motorcycle, and a 63 Corvette... But anyway... he and I worked on some basic cleanup and maintenance on that R50/5. I think I was more enthralled with it that he was. I rode a borrowed Honda 350 around with him on the BMW... the first time I rode a motorcycle.

During a parts run for that bike, we went to a Triumph dealer, that specialized in old euro bike parts and restorations, as well... and I fell really hard for a '98 Tornado Red T595 Triumph Daytona. I still want one of those.

But since the 955cc Daytona didn't live long enough to get upgraded to the 1050i engine, like the Speed Triple did... and riding a bike with slightly more humane ergonomics, the top of my list would now have to be a BMW R1200S.

The BMW R1200S is the successor generation to the previously mentioned R1100S Boxer Cup specials. The R1200S is lighter and more powerful than the R1100S, although less friendly to passengers and BMW saddle-bag attachment.

The BMW R1100S Boxer Cup, and K1200R Power Cup bikes, with the white, blue, and red paint scheme are hot. I have always liked that paint scheme.

This is the 2004 and 2005 (final year) R1100S Boxer Cup

The previous model years, this is a 2002:

This is a later R1200S custom painted with the Boxer Cup colors. It was not available in these colors from the factory, unfortunately.

Or pick up a Honda Rune, or Valkyrie Or Gold wing and get a boxer 6-Cylinder bike.

.

But for a beautiful concept, leave it to Ferrari. Chop down their legendary V12 to a V4, driving one wheel, and you have their superbike.

And it even matches Huck's SVX ..

Really? It makes me want to barf!!! Then again, at least it isn't just another Harley or Farley air pump weezing out 40hp per liter.

Only Boxer on my radar at the moment would be that low mleage 76 Goldwing without all the old man crap. Just a plain, clean standard.

Those are both very cool bikes!

BTW... since you work at BMW... can you have them build a successor to the R1100S, R1200S, R110RS, and K1200R-Sport, all rolled into one supreme Boxer sport touring bike? (emphasis on SPORT, rather than ST's emphasis on touring.)

Use the new DOHC boxer engine.
R1200S trellis-style frame.
R1100S tail section with two pipes and sleek cowl lines, with bag compatibility, and better for the pillion passenger than the R1200S.

A half fairing like the K1200R-Sport, with fairing-mounted signal-mirrors.

Optional belly-pan under-fairing, or full lower fairing panels, for those who want them, like the R1100RS-L.

And put the Duolever front suspension on the front, like the K1200R and R-Sport.

And include that killer new tilting and steering adaptive headlight that was just announced for the K1600GT and GT-L.

Yeah, I will get right on that!

In other news the facility I work at only makes the X5, X6, and soon to be the new X3... so SUV/SAV land for me... :-/

BMW R1200S HP2 Sport. The ultimate boxer sport bike. New DOHC boxer (first use), and tons of on-board tech. Variable suspension, full digital dash, and electronically adjustable suspension, IIRC.

All of the bodywork on that bike IS carbon fiber. Stock. And it is reportedly hard to get replacements if it gets rashed. The tail/seat section is a self-supporting CF structure, bolted to the steel subframe on the back of the engine. The exhaust muffler actually attaches to it, and that is the extent of the tail section, really.

The white is paint over the carbon-fiber panels. The black is some black paint, some bare, clear-coated CF, if I remember correctly.

The concept/show bike in near-race spec, was mostly clear-coated CF, without the white paint. The newer BMW S1000RR inline 4 sport-bike that is conquering the market right now, was also shown in prototype race trim with full CF bodywork, as well.

R1200S HP2 Sport in unpainted CF looks like this:

Gotta love the White, blue and red livery here, too...
