Re: So Cal meet is ON!

OK, as I said, I've been out of the loop for a while with health problems, but they're getting better, and I'm ready to become more active again. I had thought of a meeting place for the group, but while I like the Torrance Cruise spot, that's really too far south for some of us, (I used to commute from Chatsworth to Torrance every day until it got to be too much to do a 100 mile round trip on a daily basis.) I sort of like the Carriage Inn Motor Hotel at the corner of Burbank Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard in Van Nuys as a meeting point, basically because it is equally distant (in the middle) from both Museums and has a decent restaurant, and a decent coffee shop. However, it seems only one attendee is interested in staying locally, so I have not asked them for a block of rooms or a special rate. In other news, I have contacted Subaru of America, and invited the West Coast PR person, Jessica Tullman, to come to the meet. I have also invited the PR person from Mother's Polish to attend, since they have a marvelous headlight restoration kit. (Perhaps he could provide some samples?)
Other than that, we have been promised some special tours at both museums, and the Petersen would be interested in displaying the FHI prototype, if they, or someone, would bring it to Los Angeles.
And that's the news for now.

Re: So Cal meet is ON!

Way to go Paul! All your contacts and experience is really going to pay off big time with some really special events and features as we continue to build up SVX owner activity on the west coast.

Displaying it long term?

There are so many rumors and speculation swirling around here about where it is, if there may be more than one of them (or the original was repainted, etc), what condition it is, etc. All we really know is no reliable sources have actually seen it since about the time our cars went into production. I think the popular belief right now is it is locked away in some FHI warehouse in Japan with a bunch of other cars and no one is ever permited to see them.

Would be fantastic if a car like this was allowed to be put on public display in one of the world's famous auto museums, plus good PR for Subaru actually having something worthy of being there.

You've got the idea, I've been pushing it, I believe that it could happen .
It seems to me that this is the best chance we have to host the car, a prestigious museum already full of concept cars, a return to SoCal after 20 years since the '90 LA Auto Show, 24-hour security, indoors,
and the best of all, Peterson wants it !

Thanks Paul, for setting up this meet, a meet to be very proud of, and the beginning of a new and great tradition on what I have called:
NATIONAL SVX WEEKEND

Reportedly, the Batmobile from the last two movies is at the Peterson, hope its on display

Re: So Cal meet is ON!

Anything is possible if you want it enough. And have enough money!

Pay particular attention to all the work John has done in trying to get this car from Japan to the USA for the 20th meet. At the price and conditions set by Fuji it should be clear they are not too keen for it to leave their control. Not soon, maybe never.

However if you can get this lady Jessica Tullman involved and keen on the notion, who knows? For sure Fuji would take into account that if the car was displayed for a time in the Peterson, it would be in safe hands and in exalted company.

Go for it guys!

Paul, great to hear from you, and I hope your health is improving and improving from strength to strength. No stopping ya, boy!

Joe

I can't see FHI sending that car anywhere BUT TO A MUSEUM. Naturally FHI would want money, especially if only a couple hundred could view it for a period of what, two days?, and at the risk of no security?, why risk a company treasure?

What if the car was shown in the lobby of the Pete, viewed by thousands? What about returning the concept to LA? Hey, it wasn't shown in New York or Detroit to my knowledge.

The Return on that basis could be huge for FHI. The car isn't bringing any interest to Subaru, sitting in storage.

A cool Chrysler concept sits in the Pete lobby today, as cool as it is, it's old and lacks relevance

My thinking exactly.

There's a huge difference between sending a company treasure across the ocean for a 3 day private event where a couple hundred people will see it, tops - versus it being prominently displayed at a world famous museum for an extended period of time with tons of exposure for the company, not to mention all the built in security and procedures of a musuem. The prototype would be among the lesser valuable treasures on display there.

Our company just came out with a new slogan today: "Rethink Possible"

Re: So Cal meet is ON!

The Petersen is asking me for a head count, in order to issue parking passes (SVXi only, other cars will have to pay $8) and issue discount entrance tickets. The message from Karen Aburto, the coordinator of these events was:
"Could you please let me know the updated count of adults and seniors (age 62 and over) and the updated club car count for your Car Club Tour on Sunday, April 18 at 11:30 a.m.? I would appreciate it. We need this information to update our Security and Admissions staff (admission fees) and to promptly request enough free validated parking tickets for members arriving in their club cars. Please let me know if you have any questions about the parking fees or the process to receive and request free validated parking tickets for your group. Also, I confirmed with Mr. Messer today that he will give your group a special tour on Sunday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m. Since your group will be given this tour, we will need a firm head count by next week, Tuesday, April 13. It’s important to know in advance because, if the group is large in size, the group would need to be broken up into two and Mr. Messer would need to schedule his morning to give two separate 45-minute tours. I’m glad your group will be given this tour. I’m sure they will thoroughly enjoy it!"
There is still some confusion about where we are to park, we may not get the scenic spot I was trying for. But I'm still working on that, too.
So please, by Wednesday, send me an e-mail or a PM (e-mail preferred) and let me know, with your first names, who to expect. It saves all of us doing a last-minute dance at the entrance desk of the Museum.
Thanks,
P.

Re: So Cal meet is ON!

I just realised that your SoCal meet is the same time as the Reading Meet. You guys should exchange cell phone numbers with the Reading guys so you can call each other up.

Re: So Cal meet is ON!

OK, here are the details. I've put eveything into this 2-page PDF, you can download it and print it out, or just read it on line. It has times and directions to both events, any other hook-ups, meals, etc, can be done on the spot. Since the Nethercutt is vastly more highly endowed than the Petersen, there is no admission or parking fee there (Saturday.) However, at the Petersen, while we own the real estate (building, parking structure and land,) there is no endowment to keep it all running, that's done through donations and admission fees. Car clubs (we are considered one,) have the parking fee waived for club cars, and admission is at a reduced rate, $6.00 instead of the $10.00 normal general admission. And, to keep the cashier from having to wrestle with all the individual fees from the group, Museum policy is to appoint one person the head of the group, that person pays the fees for everyone, and is paid back by the group members. Unfortunately, that person is me, so I will meet everyone in the lobby at 9:30 and start collecting the money. When I tell the cashier you've paid, she will provide you with a wrist-band that will keep Security from chasing you around to make sure you're a legitimate visitor. OK, enough talk. Look at the instructions, and I hope to see you all in Sylmar on the 17th.
P.

I won't be able to make it to the Saturday event, but I'll be there on Sunday for the museum meet. I'll also be bringing along my laptop with b3lha's latest SVX ECU/TCU software, so if any members want to try that out, gimme a shout. I'll be the guy with the dirty 280Z.
