4.44 update
Well Ive driven my car about 2500 miles since the 4.444 swap and all I can say is it is the best thing that Ive done to this car in 6 yrs of owning it. Totally different car, better acceleration, improved gas mileage(no Im not lying) about 3-5mpg better, and better midrange. They should have put this in the first place. Damian

way to go. great job on the swap. great find on a good tranny and rearend... wait tell u go the stage1 or stage2 chip. it has a little more giddy up =]

Don't try to tell some people you gained mileage, They never believe it. I gained about as much as you did when I swapped but I've been told by some people(The name chic--e comes to mind) that it's not possible. But anyway, Glad you like it cause I know I sure as hell do. Just keep an eye on your front diff as I've heard the stress of our motors will crack it and mine has about 6 stress cracks in it now and one of them leaks diff fluid. Enjoy!

Sorry for being ignorant, but what does 4.44 mean? And why is it better? What is in our cars originally? Go easy on me.

How do you go about changing it to 4.444? I have an auto tranny atm...

You'd need to buy a tranny out of a Legacy Outback 96-early 98 and the rear diff, then have the tranny swapped into your SVX, and have the ring and pinion from th erear diff swapped (to retain the SVX's LSD) and then swap the rear diff in, and you're done.....
The tranny is a direct bolt up swap, the rear diff take a little more work, but not bad either.

How much are we lookin at... if to buy a legacy transmission etc.?
And I thought WRX transmission is better, am I wrong? |
