Significant Technical Input
If I had a choice I'd take a 917.

good choice. if i had more money than i knew what to do with, i'd take a Dauer 962LM. it would be cool to know you were driving the fastest street legal car ever made, and if a McLaren F1 ever revved at you at a redlight, you could hand his a$$ to him.

The Germans ALWAYS do it better! 917's were classic icons of road racing, the 959 was the first truly supercar, with outstanding speed AND technology, plus you could actually drive it everyday. Porsches regularly go over 100k miles, a distance Ferraris and Lambos would be on their 2nd motor. The 911 GT3 OWNS its class in ALMS, usually sweeping the top 10 or more. All from the founder of the Volkswagen Beetle.

He didn't invent it. He proposed a "people's car" that would be easy to produce and readily available to help pull Germany from the early 1930's depression that hit all over the globe. Ferdinand Porsche designed the Volkswagen Beetle to that idea. The air cooled rear engined vehicle is something Mr. Porsche held close to his heart and his first Porsche was also air cooled and rear engined. What followed was a great lineage of sports cars, the 356, 550 Spider, and the iconic 911. The only Porsches that do not have rear or mid engines were the 924/944/968 family, the 928, and the Cayenne. There maybe a 4 door front engine Porsche in the works to compete with the Maserati Quattroporte sport sedan. They have reserved the names Panameria and Panamerican in case it gets the go ahead.

I know, I still find it funny thoe that VW would not exsist if not for Hitler In fact I have an orignal 1938 pin depicting the VW beetle above a swastika and the "peoples car"

BTW: There is a 928 down the road from my house is a junk hole with very light right front damage, I do not know if it's an "S" but it has shiny wheels. Let me know if you want me to check it out for you?

The S model was imported from 1981 to 1986 with several different outputs form the 4.5 then 4.7 litre V-8. The S4 was from 1987 to 1991. It used a 5.0 litre V-8 with 316hp. The S4 also had different taillights, revised undercarriage for better aerodynamics at speed, and a different elongated rear body section. Plus it used a wing over a duck tail type spoiler. Thanks for the offer, but I won't be buying until after I move next year.

Thats OK, it's been sitting in the same spot for the last 4 years so I don't think it's going anywhere soon.

Maybe I should get it and swap in a chevy smallblock

Yeah put thats just dumb.

I stopped and looked at it, it's an 85 with a 302, and the body is not damaged it has just always had the hood poped a little and one of the head lights is poped out. The body is acctually in realy good shape, it's the interior and half dissasembled motor that need a little love.
