So you'd rather have a new Mazda 3 for the same money as a 3 year old BMW 330Ci with 36,000 miles on it? You're crazy.

But really..the best advice to give would be NOT to buy a new car. It is the poorest way to spend your money, especially when just starting out of school. Buy a 2-3 year old car that is known for quality, save $4-8000 (or more) on the price, and lots of other money in insurance, etc...

Here, here Steve. Great advice. I see the TX sun has yet to fry your brain

For the money he's looking to spend on a new car, he can easily pick up a used G35 sedan. I know my wifes car has a residual less than his new car limit. It's not a large car in terms of interior room, but RWD and 260HP is nice and she cruises at 80mph (braeking the law, breaking the law-bannination imminent) all day very nicely.

Just until the next hot car comes out then the Impreza WRX will be long forgotten. Which tool are you gonna be Alan, I'm thinking you'd make a great pitchfork. Very intimating to the ground but not able to do much damage when digging a grave.

For someone like me, its much easier to get a good rate on a new car loan than a used.

Thumbs up And the verdict?

My friend is now driving around the backroads outside of Charlotte, NC in a brand new '05 titanium grey Mazda 3s.

The 3s comes with the 160hp/150 ft-lb 2.3L inline four. He also chose the 4 speed auto which comes with a manual shift feature, sunroof and alloy sport wheels.

All in all, he was out the door for ~17.9K which he said was about 2K less than a similarly equipped Impreza 2.5RS.

While it's not a Subaru, I can't say I'm dissapointed with his choice. It's a great car!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. When upnygimp suggested the Mazda 3, I mentioned it to him, and he said he had to get one as the 2.3L in the 3s makes the car way more peppy than the same 2.3L in a 6i.

It's a great car with good gas mileage. And, the interior has pretty good quality.

Chike, do you think those 5 lug 17" wheels with fit into an SVX? They look good to me.

If 5x114.3 fits a SVX, then yes. Not sure about offset.

LGT, IMO, isn't a "tool's" car. Its actually quite nice. And I think the "tool" status for the WRX comes in when you slap a wing on the back.

I seriously doubt they'll fit over the front calipers as the offset is probably similar to the Mazda 6 17x7" wheels which have a +60mm offset. The narrower wheel keeps a good clearance from the inside strut, but the outside of the rim is sunken into the body by almost a 1/2" compared to the stock wheels.

While this will still clear the rear calipers, I seriously doubt it'll clear the front ones...
