Hard starting
...but only in the morning when the engine's stone cold, and seemingly only when the temperature is around freezing. (Always starts on the first hit any other time.) And "hard" really isn't accurate; hold the accelerator to the floor and she fires right up. No check engine light; no troubles at idle or on the road, no adverse effect on fuel economy that I've noticed. The car went through a similar spell last year, but the problem cleared-up within a week or so, leading me to believe then it might have been caused by some spurious signal the ECU needed to "unlearn."
Anyway, I did a search and noodled around for awhile and have concluded: temperature sensor (22630AA041). Anybody care to back me up, or offer other ideas? Thanks in advance. dcb |

The temperature sensor is always the first thing I think of with hard starts around freezing.

On a lark, I gave that Subaru part number to the manager of O'Reilly's Auto Parts here in town and asked if his system showed anything. "Temperature sensor, Subaru, $14.99." Sure beats the $20.54 + $7.95 S&H I'd pay on-line. It'll be here by Monday.
Hopefully that'll solve the problem. dcb |

It should work. It's the cheaper of the 2 temperature sensors. It's probably not an SVX specific part going by the "AA" in the part number.

Not a hint of starting trouble since I replaced the temp sensor.

Good to hear. You'd be amazed at how many of those suckers we replace every week. A cheap and easy fix compared to some of the other problems Subarus can have!

What do you have to do to replace one?

Actually just ensure there's no pressure in the cooling system (remove the rad cap).
