You've got to be a bit more specific.

Do you mean your burning program works but the burner doesn't? Or you can't get your burning program to work? Or you have no burning program?

Also you can't just throw everything that worked on ME onto XP and expect it to work normally. XP is an entirely different OS than ME. Virtually nothing is the same. A good bit of the programs that you had working on ME cannot work on XP.

Kelli you might need to download a cd burning program. What kind of printer do you have? I had the same problem when i reformatted my comp....i went to the printer website and downloaded the drivers for the printer and now it works fine. You might need to do the same.

This would be a good time to make the switch to a Mac. Two good reasons:

1) Virtually no viruses.
2) You won't have to worry about friends muckin' around with it.

download something called "ares"....its like kazaa meaning u can download anything..music...videos...picture ...software. Its free and u wont get pop ups. You can download a burning program from there. Try Nero...thats a good program. Then you should go to compaq's website and see if they have the drivers for your printer online. But it may not be windows XP compatible so if thats the case then i think you need a new printer.

Forget Nero, try this one. It is free and works brilliantly

Okay...

A.) Burning. Windows XP has burning capabilities built right in. For general software/file backup, you pop in a blank CD and it gives you a list of options (if you have Autorun enabled, which in a clean install of WinXP, you should.).

From there, you select "Open as a Folder" or something similar. Then it will open a blank window, much akin to what it looks like when you open a floppy or other removable media.

At this point, you can simply drag the files you want to burn over to the CD. When you're done, click on the "Burn" icon across the top of the window or simply try to eject the disc. It will then open up the "Burning Wizard" and walk you through the process.

If you want to do anything more fancy, you will need a specific program to do so, such as the ones suggested above.

B.) In regards to your printer... Follow this link: http://tinyurl.com/6l9vu and click on the black "Download Now" button and save it to your Desktop.

From that point, when it's done downloading, you can then double-click on the SP16040.exe file that will be on your desktop and that will walk you through the installation process for your printer drivers and printer software.

If you need help with any step of this process and have some form of instant messaging, drop me a PM and I can walk you through the process.

3) You don't have to worry about software conflicts as you can run Photoshop, that puzzle thing, Internet Explorer and about 7 other applications.
4) Significantly reduces your stress level when working on large projects. If it freezes (..and it will) it cannot be recovered. Gives you plenty of time to go out for a smoke break and to purchase a 12-gauge, which in and of itself, is rather cathartic when pumping slugs into the overly cute and wholly ludicrous input scheme and casing.
5) Saves you money on pesky upgrades... As you can't swap out the motherboard, processor and in many cases, the video card... You don't have to spend megabucks on performance enhancers. Just toss it away and buy a new one.
6) No tough buying decisions when it comes to periphreals. You have the choice of a.) Overpriced, propriatary Apple products, b.) Overpriced, propriatary Apple products or c.) Overpriced, propriatary Apple products.

...and yes, I do own a G5 running OSX.3.7...

Make sure that before ya do anything else ya update Windows to service pack 2 and update your virws protection... (you do have that don't ya?)... I prefer Norton System Works along with Norton Firewall... Also, what burning software do ya have? Nero Ultra is a great program
