High RPM stuttering/jerking-eradic wnd shld wipers

Hi, I have two problems right now that are beyond me.
First: After about 4k rpms the car starts to jerk and stutter, doesnt matter what speed or gear. after doing it for a few seconds the engine light comes on. I was thinking fuel filter but want to make sure that is not all I need.

Second: My windshield wipers are acting really wierd. On the timed setting, adjustable with the knob, they vary in the speed and frequency of their motion. It is all random, it seems, when they decide to go faster or slower. Annoying but not nearly as critical as the first problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

your first problem sounds like my bad cam position sensor....

Your second problem souds like, under the assumption the problem also occurs under normal wipe (.-o), to be a failing alternator and /or battery.

The issue with the wipers: Do you like speed sensitive intermittant wipers?

At the quickest intermittant setting there is no delay once you reach approx 25 mph. Delay starts again once you slow below this speed.
