Day time running lights aka Fog Lamps?

Is there a way to hook up the Fog Lights for day time use without the head lights being on?

I think that would be cool. The SVX moves into the next decade.

aren't DRLs generally partial-strength high beams?

Not on a Saturn.
Some of the cars have very bright lights.

Heck our fog lights point at the ground.

I think it would be neet to keep people guessing what year it is.

actually, i'm talking specifically about saturns. unfortunately, my mother owns one and i vaguely remember reading that the DRLS are high beams at 80% strength. i may have to go look at her owner's manual this weekend.

The first time Saturn had DTRL's they were blinding. I still remember how bright they were. It was very hard to NOT see the car at high noon in the summertime without a cloud in the sky.

Yup CDG is working on that but hasn't done anything yet. To my surprise I got a PM from someone downunder explaining how to do it and that Mike was working on it.

I don't see why you'd bother with wiring anything. The SVX (like every other Subaru I've driven) turns its lights off when you turn the ignition to 'off.'

So we just drive ours around with the lights on all the time.

I just wanted to know how to wire the fog lights so I could just turn them on. Without the parking lights, or the head lights.

I'm sure I could probably figure it out. I just wanted to benefit from the hard work of others.

I got the following PM from Trevor in response to this thread.

I haven't tried this yet.

CDG hasn't tried it either.

Back in February I assisted Chris ( CDG ) with the fog light switching mod you wish to make and it is quite simple. Check with him as I presume he has made the required changes in the wiring.

I quote from one PM I sent him and hope this will assist. Regards, Trevor.

" In order to secure independent operation of the fog lights you should disconnect the existing wire from connector point B45/13 and then connect a new ground wire in place of the original wire.

The original circuit provides for a ground connection only when the headlights are on, i.e. grounded. This circuit must be disconnected otherwise your added ground wire will also affect the head light switching.

By the way my JDM car has the Fogs arranged so that they come on separately but also with the tail lights and I use them in city driving instead of the head lights. The US set up makes little sense to me. "

Of course you knew this would be my next question...

Where is B45?

I do have the chilton's manual, but it doesn't seem to list the connector locations.

I also found the original thread. But it also doesn't seem to go into where it is.

You COULD also just install the DRL unit that us Canadian SVX owners already have.

I'd still like to know if grounding the wire from connector point B45/13 would truly have the desired effects.
