talk me out of it!

i've been working an evening shift at work this month, so i spend alot of time on the computer during the day and i haven't been sleeping too good. maybe my judgement is impaired or i'm bored but i've been thinking about selling the SVX, taking the wife's WRX, buying her something else (Forester) and adding a Vishnu Stage 1 kit to the WRX. something about 4.3-4.5sec 0-60 and 300-310hp for $2245 seems really interesting right now!

someone tell me why this is a horrible idea. please!

Because then you'd be just like all the other lemmings with modded WRXs. Dare to be different. Besides.... you say that you wouldn't want a neon, even if it did run 12s.... why? Because itsa neon. The same rules applies here. WRXs are ugly, and they have two too many doors, and they're just... blech. I'll take a beat up 200k mile SVX over any WRX anyday of the week.

i don't know about your neck of the woods, but in Pittsburgh i see as many if not more SVX's than WRX's.

Neon and WRX build quality aren't even in the same league. sorry, but i couldn't drive a car who's interior sounds like someone shaking a tin can full of nut and bolts. bad logic on this one.

this is your OPINION, though. in your opinion Neons are great cars, therefore your opinion doesn't help me much. i happen to like the way the WRX looks, that's why i bought one. on the other hand, i think Neons are quite the dumb-looking little car.

i'm still not convinced.

Just say No!

You may like the WRX for the first few months, but you will end up missing the SVX and buying another one within a year.

You've got to be effing kidding.

Trust me, Alan. I drive WRX's and STi's and every other kind of subaru on a daily basis, and none of them come close to overall greatness of the SVX. If you get rid of your SVX for a WRX I'll never talk to you again.

Because the SVX is a better car! Just for kicks, this Saturday I went to the local Suby dealership, and flogger, err..., test drove a 2003 WRX sedan. I was not impressed with either the handling or the power delivery of the WRX compared to my SVX. My SVX with new struts and my slightly lower, and stiffer springs far out handles the WRX in anything but the tightest corners. The power delivery of the WRX is so, blah. Turbo lag is significant, and even when the boost kicks in, it doesn't have that, "let the good times roll" feeling that I get with my SVX. And the WRX just doesn't match the stability of the SVX at high speed. 110 mph in the SVX on a long sweeping freeway onramp is so fun. I can easily feel the aerodynamics of the car making it squat down and hug the road. I can't wait to install my 5-speed. I can only imagine that the power delivery is going to be even more fun in the SVX.

It would surely cost more money, but my suggestion would be to install a 5-speed and put some better springs your SVX. You may never reach 0-60 in less than 5 seconds in your SVX, but you'll have more fun in the SVX.

Ditto.

And yeah, here in Madison, I think we have about 5 SVXs... and about 2000 WRX's. Phil has one, some old dude named Neil, and an elderly couple has a red one and a blue one. That's it. I almost never see them.

Seriously though, what I find funny is I know a neon owner who purchased a WRX for a daily driver, and ended up selling it because he couldn't stand the plasticy interior. He hates his neon interior also, but he said the Subaru one was hte same thing.

It's true. Basically, almost any car has a complete **** interior compared to the SVX. A supra might have a good interior...but other than that... I mean, even the 3000GT has a bad interior compared to the SVX.

FURTHERMORE; how are you going to afford a new forrester for the wife?!??!

If you have that money, convert YOUR SVX to a 6spd and maybe a new paintjob and some new rims and Porter's suspension system!!!!!!!

Rob brings up a good point. It seems that most new cars I look at have crappy interiors. I'm not sure if it's because all of them are buying from the same suppliers, who are now using these materials, if they're cheaper to use, or if it's a 'modern look and feel' they're all trying to emulate. You know, that satin-y plastic look.

Overall, though, I will definitely say that, even on the newer vehicles, I think Japanese manufacturers still have US manufacturers beat on fit and finish of the entire car - including the interior.

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

<------ Does this look like a face that would lead you astray? Don't sell the SVX. You'll be mad at yourself later. The young man from whom I bought the SVX had replaced it with a WRX. By the time I'd flown to pick up the SVX, he was having second thoughts.

who said new?

i just miss having some freight train torque under my right foot. i probably will be keeping my SVX for another 5 years at least. i just need to find a way to keep my wife from driving her car for 3-4 days so i can take the ECU and send it out to be re-flashed.
