Re: Why you shouldn't buy you teenager a Maserati
My oldest son, who was awarded 'most promising driver' by the RACMSA during his karting career always struck me as being a 'natural'. He would be brave, inch perfect on lines lap after lap, and never conceded a place easily, or missed a chance to pass.
Then he became 17. Golf GTi - hit bridge parapet with 3 pals in - scrap car. Ford Transit - hit bridge parapet - ran off - almost scrap van. Golf given to him by granny, mint and super low miles - passed bridge parapet but hit truck leaving stonemasons 50 yards further on - scrap car. Then things improved a bit. Racing local lad in tuned Mini - local lad through hedge and rolled shiny new Clio. Then the odd written off bike, well 3 actually and now he's 33 with 3 kids. My God how times change! Now it's 'look at that d***head driving too close' etc etc. I only hope his own kids put him through the same grief I have had... In the interest of fairness, my younger son achieved similar parental nightmares, mainly on bikes, with the odd shooting incident for good measure. Anyone reading this thinking of starting a family, get a vasectomy quick. |
