Urgent help needed, coil replacement

Hey everyone. I have taken the coil for plug #6 off and now I'm not sure how to unplug it. Do they just pull straight out or are there clips? (I'm talking about where the end of the coil plugs in, not where it attaches to the spark plug)

Sorry if that is hard to understand as I don't know the correct terminology

narrow blade screwdriver helps, there is a clip that you have to unclip to detach it from the harness

Thanks for the reply. I have been working on this since I posted it and I still can not get the stupid thing off. I dont understand how subaru expected anyone to be able to get this off. I have pryed at the clip with a screwdriver and still, it will not come off. Just to be sure. Are we talking about the clip that holds the coil into the wire that plugs into it, or the clip that holds the coil onto the metal thing?

Thanks,

Fun173

There is a thin plastic flap on the top of the clip in that picture. It's not at the very outside, but if you start at the pins and go up, you'll hit it.

You need to gently pry that outward as you pull the plug away.

Re: Urgent help needed, coil replacement

Ok,

I have put the car back together for the night but I will take a crack at this again tomorrow. I was surprised how easy it was to remove the coil from the spark plug. I was expecting it to be easy to unplug but hard to remove from the spark plug but it was the other way around! After doing all this it does not seem too hard to change the plugs but I don't have to worry about that for a while since i had Subaru change them a couple of months ago.

Thanks again,
Fun173

Re: Urgent help needed, coil replacement

Is this where we need to pull the flap out on each connector? I ended up getting a long screwdriver with a bent nail and have no problem pulling this flap out but the blue connector won’t budge. It works fine on the passenger side but none will budge on the tight driver’s side where of course we need it. We have around 6 hours into this and can't get this out. It was very easy to get the coil away from the plug but getting it unplugged from the harness on the driver’s side is a nightmare for us. I don’t want to try force until I am sure this is the only flap.

Does the clip which slides into the metal holder need to be touched?

Thank you very much.
