Security system

Hi,

So I didn't get any remotes with the SVX I picked up in October. I still have the 2 original, working remotes from my wrecked car though and I'd love if I could get them to work with the new car. The problem I have is that the security system seems to be disabled or something. The security button doesn't do anything and having disconnected and reconnected the battery tons of times, the system never defaults to "on" either. The power locks work though. Where should I start? Is there a typical way that people tend to disable these systems if they lose the remotes or something?

Your security brain is dead it would seem. I had the same problem with my 92 I replaced the brain box and it works perfectly.

Yep, security units are common to go out. They were updated at some point to be a better unit.

As for programming them, there is a procedure for it but I'm not sure of it offhand.

Actually the problem wasn't that the security module was dead. It was absent altogether . I finally figured out that the module was in a different spot in the 94 and up models and looked in the trunk to find... just the plug and the bolts, no module. So I pulled the one from my '92 and plugged it in and tested the remotes and it just worked. I didn't even have to reprogram them .
