Re: Stereo power issue

I'm putting in the new alternator about 3pm so i'll report back what I find. Hoping the battery didn't fry as well since I pretty much drove it for 45min with no alternator.

Won't hurt the battery from no alternator. At least it was not working at >16 Volts on the way.

Harvey.

Nah, like Harvey said the battery should be fine.... they have a reserve of usually around 2 hours in case of alternator failure.... the important thing is not to let a battery sit in a discharged state for any longer than necessary.

Re: Stereo power issue

Good news. Put the new alternator in and my stereo DOESN"T cut out and my sub woofer DOESN't cut out as well. This made my day as I would have spent the same if not more money to replace both of them and it wasn't even the problem. Thanks for all the advice.

There machines aren't the greatest for checking them. I had bought a reman for a previous car from there and I was having issues with the battery dying. They tested it fine, I went to an actual shop where it failed eventually and went back. I really don't trust any of their testing equipment at any of the chain stores. Just bad luck or employee error, who knows.
Glad its all taken care of now though.
