UK Rear Tails

I've been meaning to ask this for a while now. Is there any reasoning to the reverse lights being so spread apart like they are compared to ours?

The European tail light panel incorporates the mandatory rear fog lights. They are brighter than normal tail lights and are used in foggy weather to be visible to drivers approaching from the rear.

The funny thing is that they don't have front fog lights in these countries. I guess it is better to be seen than to see in the first place

So the US cars have 4 brake/tail lights and the European cars have only 2 brake/tail lights.

The New Zealand version is like the US (placement wise) - but lacks the stop lights in next to reversing lamps - we have reflectors only in that area (and middle stop light in the tail area.

I was shocked about 10 years ago when I go a USA version sent out from a parting out SVX guy .....

there are also various coulour differences over the years also....

Ok thanks guys, all new stuff I didn't know. Yea John, rear fogs are pointless. I always thought that some taillights where brighter than others. That sucks that the centers are deflectors. I can't imagine wanting USDM stuff.

Our Discovery has rear fogs too. I was looking through the owners manual to see what a certain switch was for and it was for the rear fogs. Never heard of them before. I have driven in some pretty heavy fog before and it is hard to see a vehicle when you come up on them. I know of numerous snow plows that have actually "plowed" into the rear of a vehicle because they couldn't see them in a snow storm. I guess the extra lighting can't hurt.
