Stall on idle
After starting the car, if I do not press the accelerator, the car vibrates and stalls. This is more pronounced when the engine is warm. I can drive the car if I keep my foot on the accelerator, but the feel is "rough".
Also, I do not know if this is related, but the steering is rough when the car is cold. The steering wheel seems to "stick" and them jump. The car has about 70,000 miles and is a 1992 model. |

I have the exact same problem (stalling when starting when warm). Searching the board seems to point out that the throttle body needs to be cleaned. Have already done that but haven't started it since then because I dropped plastic shards into my crankcase in an unrelated issue

i also have the same problem. when i park my car at the bottom of my driveway(down hill) it wants to stall all the time. and this is even after a 30minute drive. it doesn't really do it when i first start her up, only once in a while. i have no clue of what it could be, but i would be interested in knowing

Ya I agee. Clean the throttle body and IAC (idle air control) with carb cleaner.
My old XT6 did this and the fix was to adjust the TP sensor. |

Could also be something like a coolant temp sensor giving weird readings. If following the Autotchr's recommendation doesn't fix it, you might want to look into pulling the codes from the ECU (instruactions are around here somewhere, you want the engine code not the transmission code), or take it to the dealer and have them pull the codes on their interface, see if anything shows up odd. On a 92 though, I believe you can just insert some wire in some plug and have the magic happen (I dont recall offhand)...

I don't think it is...
Quote:
- Check Engine Light would come on for 5-15 seconds while the engine warmed up - It would occasionally leave the Check Engine Light on requiring the ECU to be reset When the light stayed on the car became hard to start and the radiator fans would be on constantly. It is possible to check any codes without any $$$$ equipment (on my 92 anyway). There is a description on checking the codes in the the following thread: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...&threadid=3930

I have my car running again and it hasn't stalled or idled rough since then. We'll see how it goes...
