tranmission swaps

I saw a 2002 wrx auto trans on ebay and was wondering if this would swap into a 92.
is there any one who has a list of which trannys and rears are compatible? do you need to swap controllers as well.
I have followed a lot of threads on this subject and I am now just a tad confused.

an 02 trans wont work. It's too new, and the wiring is different.

To answer your question about the WRX trans, it could be done, but you'll need the TCU as well, since our Subarus never came with VTD (vehicle torque distn) that the '99 and later models came with...

Generally, early 90's to '98 trans from Legacies, Outbacks, Imprezas will all be a direct plug-n-play swap, but you will need to get a matching rear diff.

P.S. I love the way my car hauls after doing the 4.11 Impreza Outback swap. These shorter gears really improve acceleration of the car a bunch!
