Strut Mounts
Not sure if this is in the right forum...
What is the difference btw the two front strut mounts listed here:http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...category=210-1 ? Anyone know of a better (read: cheaper) source for these?

I think that would be the original less stiffer mount and the redesigned stiffer mount.
No other less costly alternative.

1stsubaruparts.com might be a little cheaper. They also accept AMEX which is great if you have a Skymiles AMEX. :-)

WHA?
What stiffer mounts? When were they introduced? Why were they introduced? Was it just front or was it rear too?

The front strut mounts for the '92-'93 cars would make a clunking sound on bumps. The front strut mounts were modified to stop this. This is what they're talking about.

Out of curiousity I checked and there's 3 different SVX strut mounts:
on the 1995 SVX there are 20320PA001 and 20320PA010 but for the 1992 there is 20320PA011 (which I would assume to be newer)

That is correct. The original strut mounts that were used in SVX's until April of 92 were changed slightly to prevent noise. From then on, all SVX's used the same mounts, and the original style mounts became un-orderable. This is also why the 92's had different part numbers for the front struts. Those changed too. What Strut?

An internal change on the strut? Does it matter what strut is used when upgrading to Koni inserts? |

I'm not sure what was changed. All I know is that if you had a SVX with the 1st strut design and you needed to replace a front strut, you had to replace both at the same time with the new design. If you only changed one to the new design the car would not sit correctly. Yes, I know, some people say you should always change both struts at the same time anyway. My point is even if you only wanted to change one you couldn't! It shouldn't matter which strut design you have when you upgrade to Konis. Dave |
