Re: Talking about parts...

When we do a Legacy transfer case overhaul we replace the transfer case with a new one, put in new drive plates, new driven plates, new roller bearing, and usually a new transfer clutch solenoid valve. I don't recall ever having to replace a drive shaft though. Again, this is on the Legacy, YMMV depending on what is actually wrong with your car. You very well could need a rear drive shaft. Your cost for that rear drive shaft would be approx. $220.

Thanks Dave. From the sound and feel of things, the 'teeth' on my rear drive shaft seem to have been damaged/shredded by the previous owner. UberRoo did a welding fix when his car had the same problem, but I just wanted to swap in a new part in its place...
I think the rear drive shaft is all I'll need for the fix, if it doesn't work, I'll get some of that other stuff you recommended. I'll PM you in the coming months to order the part as well as those oil filters! Need to make some money first... Thanks! -Chike Quote:

Actually, put a hold on that rear shaft...
I plan on doing a 5spd swap in the next year, so I really don't want to invest in new parts since I'm not looking at the 'longterm' with this tranny. If I can't find a transfer clutch assembly in good condition from an SVX parts car, I'll PM you and order the parts... -Chike

OK. Found some info at work. Each crank shaft sensor actually reads from a different gear on the end of the crankshaft. Sensor #1 reads a gear that has 12 evenly spaced teeth. This tells the ECU where the crankshaft is every 30 degrees. Sensor #2 reads a gear that has 6 unevenly spaced teeth. There is a group of three teeth, then a group of two, and then one by itself. According to the book sensor #2 and the camshaft sensor are used for injector firing. Sensor #1 tracks the overall progress of the crankshaft through its 360 degree rotation. Dave |
