SVX Radio... and CD player

Does anyone know if the newer double din Subaru in-dash 6 cd changer/receiver say from a WRX or Legacy will plug into the existing socket? I've been toying with just replacing it with another OEM SVX unit but have had some second thoughts. Thanks

Should fit nicely. There was a B4 unit that looked real nice on yahoo Japan auction a couple of days ago. Look fully stocked and yet looks real nice.

Lwin,

So are you saying that the pins in the harness match up? I don't want to smell ozone as I watch the sparks fly.....

I can't say for sure but should fit. I have not seen the pins yet.

All Subaru's use the same harness EXCEPT for the SVX!! Someone on the wanted/For Sale forum is selling custom wire harness adapter for the SVX. No one else makes them. You would need one of those and a 90+ Subaru radio to universal harness from Metra or Scosche. Combine the 2 to make the correct adapter. As far as the physical fit, it's a direct replacement for the SVX's stock stereo.

You'll need what's called a "reverse harness" to plug into the WRX or Legacy radio. This plug looks like what's wired into a WRX or Legacy, and plugs into the back of the radio. The other end is just bare wires (no second plug).

My understanding is that a "universal harness" has plugs at both ends -- one that connects to a particular make/model of car, and the other has a 'standard' plug that mates with a second harness. The second harness has the opposite gender of 'standard' plug, and the other end plugs directly into a particular model of after-market stereo. The harness manufacturers started making these so that the installers don't have to do any crimping or soldering -- just pick the right two pieces, plug everything together, and they're done.

Unfortunately, they don't make harnesses (regular or "universal") for the SVX. I also don't think anyone makes a "universal" one that would connect to the WRX or Legacy radio, but you don't need that (since they don't make a "universal" one for the SVX car). You can find normal reverse harnesses for the WRX and Legacy radios (plug at one end, wires at the other end).

Here's my For Sale post for the SVX harnesses.

And here's a link to a post about installing WRX radios in an SVX.

People noted that the WRX radio is slightly deeper -- you will have to do some metal cutting to make it fit.

Just to clear things up. What you call a "reverse harness" and what I called a universal harness is the same thing. We refer to them as universal harnesses because they make a factory stereo into a universal stereo.
