Air con compressor
Having searched the forum so already: can anyone confirm for sure that the air conditioning compressor from a 92/93 will not fit my 1996.
I've found one on Ebay from a 1992 and a 1993 from a breaker and would rather fit one of these than pay the £1200 Subaru want just for the part! Thanks in advance. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-SVX...item27c4c4e34d |

Re: Air con compressor
the older compressors were made for r12 and the newer cars use r134a. you can use it in theory but is probably more trouble than finding a used compressor for your model year. the older refrigerant compressors tend to have seals that prefer different oil and sometimes the inlet/outlet are different sizes as r134a because they behave differently.

Quote:
Since he's going this route, he should be able to drain out all of the compressor oil and put R134a compatible oil in place. This should eliminate most chances of problems. |

Re: Air con compressor
are the inlet and outlet ports the same between the systems? that would be the major problem but i don't know if subaru kept them the same.

Re: Air con compressor
They're the same at the compressor. There are some differences elsewhere though. The connection at the evaporator, for one.

Re: Air con compressor
They SUBARU, converted my 92 from 12 to 134. Theft had toe evac , change the fittings and refill. I had air right up to selling the car. A good 10 years.

Re: Air con compressor
Thanks to everyone for their help. Looks like someone from the UK Svx Yahoo group has one going spare which should mean no modifications will be required.
