Re: cv shaft joint
i've seen subaru diffs go bad for only two reasons: no fluid or different sized tires over a long period of time. it more likely to be a problem with the axle that goes to the center diff than the diff itself.

Re: cv shaft joint
Hard to explain its almost like its slipping on ice spots .that's why I ask if there could be anything wrong with the rear diff. I bought the car off of my nieghbor and he told me that the subaru dealer told him it was a cv joint .he don't remember wich one

Quote:
Could you be describing bind? With your steering wheel fully turned all the way and going in circles do you get a "bind" effect? Sort of repeated grab and release? Or do you mean that the transmission feels like it's slipping (revs increase w/o change in speed) when driving straight ahead? Do a serch on "bind". Tapani |

Re: cv shaft joint
It doesn't rev up like tranny slipping more like bind . So I'm gonna have the tranny flushed with new filter then do my figure 8's to see if that helps .

Re: cv shaft joint
you may want to change the diff fluid first and add a limited slip additive. it's way cheaper than flushing the trans. also make sure your tires all exactly the same size, unevenly worn tires will cause binding.

Re: cv shaft joint
If the FWD fuse "cures" the binding I would place my money on the transfer clutch acting up - for one reason or another.

Re: cv shaft joint
For the love of God, don't flush the transmission!!!
Well, unless you want it failing within the next couple thousand miles. A straight drain and refill with a new filter. Also, if the figure 8's don't fix it, there's a chance that the transfer clutch may need to be "rebuilt". |

Re: cv shaft joint
Ok so just drain and new filter no flush. Then try the 8's if no go then clutch pack rebuild . Rite?
